well,
i am not quite sure whether this query belongs to this forum or not, but please help me if possible..
well, my XPS1530 didnt start two days back.i called up dell n after making me running some tests and checking memories open and all they say - its the motherboard, now as i had the motherboard replaced just 4 months back and my warranty ran over two months back.
though i had been applying for warranty expansions for few weeks on the dell website and filling their form, some 4-5 times.. got no reply.
could there be any chance of getting DELL have a go on my previously filled "warranty expansion" form..??
otherwise the motherboard is going to cost me a bomb![]()
please help..

Dig up the paperwork of the 4 months old motherboard replacement and send it to them. I am not sure about the warranty replacement time where you are, but usually I would expect the replacement part to last at least 6 months.
Good lucks.
cheers ... -
well, i kinda was lazy to make a call to them for the warranty expansions.. but i suppose i got a tight lesson ..
thanks again.. any more advice ..?? -
Faulty Mobo, replacement should cover 1 year period. So ring them up let them know your board is rip.

Here is some information

they are saying i have to pay for the motherboard.. could you help me locating the "1 year warranty on the replacement part" if it really exists.
i would be thankful to you.
any more help i could seek from you .. :|
thanks in advance man. -
I don't know where you guys are getting the 1 year date from, but a typical warranty on a replacement is the longer of either 90 days, or the rest of the original warranty.
-
I was told the same by Dell customer care.
and now I am running out of choices as the new MoBo would cost me somewhere around $310 USD.
Any suggestion you would give me as I ran totally out of my luck and MoBo got s@rewed on its 93rd day.
thanks man. -
Depending on the symptoms, you can pursue the videocard angle. If some part of you laptop boots up (blinking LEDs, spinning HDD), and you don't get video, then it may well be the video card.
If it truly is the motherboard that's shot, then you just ran into some bad luck, and it's time for a new computer. -
And the dell guys saying replacing the MoBo and expansion of the warranty for the year would cost me somewhere USD400 ..
is it worth it.. as the laptop itself had cost me somewhere USD1000 an year back.. -
okie ..there s another question ..
Dell says the motherboard is faulty and that could be a minor issue also, but for that they would have to replace the MoBo as they would not repair that.
Is it advisable for me to get the MoBo checked by some local guy/vendor and get it fixed, instead of calling dell and getting everything replaced..
and then later apply for the expansion of the warranty?
would you guys suggest this.? -
You can only extend a warranty if you're within a warranty period. You can't just randomly buy a warranty from Dell.
-
-
Then what's to prevent you from telling them it's fixed and buying a warranty?
-
could they figure it out by looking at the internal component, that it had been hampered/fixed by an outside guy?
would they still give me a warranty..? -
Well, first off, like I said, you can only extend a warranty if your unit is under warranty. I don't know what Dell told you, but that's the policy for every company. Otherwise, people would never buy a warranty, and only consider one if their unit needed repair.
Secondly, only Dell Certified Technicians are allowed to work on Dell units. If a non-Dell Certified Tech services the unit, the warranty is voided.
