Well, it's here! The Dell XPS m1530!
Wow, and MUCH cheaper price then theorized. Just $999!!
I configured it with 2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB HDD, 8600m GT, and 9 Cell Battery for less then $1500.
I gotta say, that is amazing.

No LED screen, you can do the same with the M1330, no 8600 GT but you will have a more portable better battery life, notebook.
-
Just figured it.. doesn't give me any options for a screen other than 1280 x 800. I was expecting more than an 8600gt to be offered in these.
-
There are multiple threads for the m1530, try this one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2706688#post2706688
More screen options will be available later (hopefully ASAP). -
for some reason I can't see the 1530 on dells site -
Well, I'm pretty sure the folks who thought the m1530 would only offer the 8400m are very happy to see the 8600m GT.
-
Does the 1530 include the fingerprint reader? I don't see it in any of the configuration options. I think this machine is likely to get poor reviews considering it doesn't add anything new over the M1330 except size and really takes out the innovative features like the LED screen...
-
^^^
Yes the 1530 comes with fingerprint reader, that's why you don't see it in configurations.
because of its size they can put the 8600gt DDR3 in it!
portability=1330
more performance=1530 -
I agree... I guess I was wrong about reviews... it's gotten good reviews and seems like a good option for someone looking for performance... I would still wait for a better rez screen though..

How is an external monitor not additional money? Do you expect people to carry said monitor around? 1200x800 is a resolution for 12" laptops, far too low for a 15", and very usable.
-
For office use? I'd like to see hard evidence that a 1440x900 produces more usable results over a 1280x800. People have been programing on 19" monitors at 1280 x 1024 for years with no complaints. -
I'm not looking for more resolution for office use, I doubt many people are with this laptop. I need more real estate on screen for having windows open, working with images, text... All the reasons anyone would want higher resolution. If 1280x800 on a 15" works for you, great, you save some money and can order it now. I have that on my 12" 700m and it's ideal and IMO it's better suited for the m1330 than the m1530.
And there's still the impractical part about needing an external monitor... -
I was skeptical about WXGA on a 15" screen, but I find it just fine. I switch back and forth from my WUXGA on my M1710 and have no complaints about the 1530....
-
I have a 22inch wide screen LCD from HP - it is amazing - thats why I don't care about the small res on the 1530. The 22inch LCD runs at 1680x150. Im gonna hook it up to my new 1530 via DVI -> HDMI cable (got it for $4 on ebay, retails @ $100).
-
If you are just gonna use it with a monitor, why the hell would you buy a laptop?
-
-
When I'm at work, I hook it up to an external monitor since I'm at a desk ANYWAYS for 8 hours. I honestly wonder how people work on this small screen for 8 hours at a time.
If it sits on a desk for that long, might as well enjoy better screen real estate.
@OP - so did you order the 1530? when does it come in?
