Hi guys,
i recently ordered myself a 1647 (last Friday the 29/1) when i check the order status online it says 'Work in progress/pre-production' its been stuck there for the last 5/6 days now....
I must admit i am a bit worried about it seeing as ive seen various posts on here saying that if it is in pre-production for more than a couple of days then there is a problem, usually with stock of a part youve ordered...cancel and re-order etc
I phoned up the useless dell customer service line and was told by the lady i spoke to that her system did not show any of the parts i ordered as being either 'end-of-life' or 'stock shortage', she said that they are simply moved from pre-production to production one at a time and the order status would be updated within 4hrs once it is into production however im far from convinced
do i need to be worried?
-
That's BS.....
if you get stuck in pre-production for days , it's either some part of your laptop is out of stock or financial problems. Otherwise, it should move to "in production" right a way, what is your configuration for the 1647?? from what I heard, most people ordered the RGB LED or the Blue-tooth set are in pre-production, as those seem to be out of stock. If you need more information, go to the XPS 1647 owner lounge thread and read some of the recent posts, we have been talking about this whole pre-production status a lot,
Again, If I were you, I would call them and firmly demand some honesty, they would tell the truth if you keep asking.
P.s I ordered mine on the same day as yours, and they tell me it is "shipped" already.......However, I still haven't received my track # yet....But I am in the US tho, might be a different case for UK.. -
My ordered spec is Core i5 540, 1080p RGB LED screen, 500gb 7200rpm HDD, Intel 6200 wireless card, ATI 4670, Bluetooth, 4GB DDR3 RAM
Ill phone them up again, ive already phoned them everyday and they keep saying its fine but im really not convinced, ive even been told i will recieve the laptop "well before the EDD" and "in the next week or two" this seems a wierd thing for them to tell me seeing as my EDD is still 3 weeks and 1 day away... -
Yeah, I see you have both RGB LED and Bluetooth, that might be why they put you in pre-production, there are a lot of people are in the same boat as you....
I didn't order neither of them, that's probably why they shipped mine that fast....
well, good luck man, please keep us posted about your order status.... -
My 1645 spent about 4 or 5 days in pre production, I wouldn't worry yet if I were you. Oh and anyone you speak to at Dell about order statuses is just going to be saying whatever they think it'll take to make you go away. Again I wouldn't worry about the conflicting answers from different people. The joys of lowest common denominator customer service.
My worst bit was waiting for the Welsh Western parcel tracking system to update; I ctrl+F5'd so often it must have looked like the world's worst denial of service attack attempt.
Hope you get it soon! -
Ive just spoken to a useless rep on the chat thing on the website and apparently theres a 5day lead time on the CPU and a 9day lead time on the screen ffs! so itll be 9 days until its in production by the look of it!
Day 7 in pre-production for me tomorrow
-
Oh boo. That seems shocking both because it looks like a rep gave you a reasonable answer and they've got a lot of newishly refreshed models with that processor, you'd think they'd have a good supply.
Small consolation but the screen really is very lovely hopefully it turns out to have been worth the wait. -
Slight change on the order status page today, but its a strange one.... :S
It still has the status as 'work in progress' but at the bottom there are only two 'sections' now whereas before there were 3!
It used to have from left to right, 'Order information' which had Customer number, Order number, Order date and Order Status. Then in the middle it had a 'Payment information' section with about 3 things i cant remember all showing as not applicable as far as i can remember, or something similar. Then on the right it had a 'Delivery information' section with EDD, Carrier and Tracking number.
But today the payment section has vanished and ive only got order info on the left and delivery info on the right...starnge... -
Sorry for the double post guys BUT
More BS from dell customer services today, i asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold for about a minute but then she came back and said her manager was 'busy with another escalation'!!
She then told me that they are manufactured in china, and they show as being in 'pre-production' even when they are being built, they then show as 'in production' and straight to being shipped
so apparently it is being built even though it says it isnt :S strange...
not sure i believe them to be honest! -
I'm in the UK and all the laptops i've bought of Dell have stayed in pre-production for a week to ten days, moved to production for a day then shipped the next day.
I don't think being in pre production means what it says. They may be building it or they may be waiting on parts only they will know I think. -
You, my friend, are a legend! My fears and worries have been swept aside lol!
Maybe what she told me is actually true then! That pre-production doesnt necessarily mean its not being built and that it will go into production then STRAIGHT to being shipped!
When/what was the last Dell laptop you ordered may i ask? Was it recently?
Tomorrow will be the 8th day in 'pre-production' so hopefully ill get it sometime next week fingers crossed! -
I have also ordered a virtually identical system to you in the UK, the only difference I can see is the wireless card. My order was placed on 27/01/09 and I have an 'order date' of 28/01/09.
Just like you my order has been showing 'Work In Progress' for some time now although hopefully from what you've been told we might hear something by early next week.
My EDD is 24/02/10 so I've not been getting too excited yet, guess it will be ready when its ready...
I'll let you know if my Order Status changes. -
Ye post on here when yours goes into production and/or is shipped mate. Itll be interesting seeing as your order date and EDD are both 1day before mine
-
Interesting to me, and i may be wrong here, is it seems as though in the States/US the EDD's tend to be more ambitious than in Europe. I am in Italy, and when I called to order my system - had to call rather than order online as I wanted my system and apps in english not italian - i was quoted right away an estimated delivery of basically a month (called 2/2, edd 3/1; ordered 2/4 edd 3/3.
However, I can say I was only in "In Lavorazione/Pre-Production" for about 12-14 hours (order confirmed email received about 4:55PM GMT+1 on 2/4; then when checked this morning, 2/5, it was "In Produczione/In Production"). My EDD is STILL 3/3 but Im hoping I'll get it much sooner. BTW this is a Studio 1558 with the i5-520M and Full HD WLED -
I have placed my order on 04/02, and it moved to "In production" the following day. The EDD is still 03/03 though.
-
I placed my order on 03/02. It is still in order state, not moved to "in production". I have no date for production or delivery.
I hope this is just a delay in updating status. -
I wouldnt worry, Minseok, i ordered mine on 29/1 and its still 'work in progress/pre-production' !!! my 10th day without moving into production now ffs!
-
I think that the difference here might be that sneer82 has ordered a WLED screen whereas myself and pitters have ordered a RGBLED screen. Reading through other posts on this forum it does seem that the RGB screen is the main cause of delays at this time.
-
I decided against RGBLED mainly because of its higher power consumption.
It looks like it was the right choice - MY ORDER HAS SHIPPED! -
So yours has shipped 5 days after ordering and mine has been in 'pre-production' for 11 days ffs! Really annoyed now. Im gonna fone them up shortly and tell them that your ordered yours a week after mine and it shipped before mine! See what they say to that lol
-
UPDATE: Just spoke to a guy called 'Rakesh' threatened to cancel my order, he replied 'sir, there is no need to cancel your order' lol, also asked to speak to his supervisor/manager, he said 'sorry noone is available, they are all in a meeting' again lol!
He told me that there is a high demand for the XPS systems causing a delay in production of some of them, clearly its the screens that are causing the delay.
However he told me that he has notification that it will move into production in the next 24-48hrs, and i made him aware that i will be making a formal complaint against him if it is not showing as in production in 48hrs time -
There is a pretty good guide on order status stages in the Order status section of the dell forum, check it out. This is a common issue I was stuck in progress until the day it shipped out (30 days after order) not to mention a whole whack of other issues.
-
Pitters you should have held him up for some freebies!!!
-
lol! ill be doing more than asking for freebies if its not in production in 48hrs like he said it would be!
-
Well now I can't get a status on my order. When I just looked I get a message "We are unable to give you an update at the moment for this order."
I don't know if this means that my order status is going to change, or that my order is being cancelled, or that the website is just not working! -
My order page doesn't work too at the moment.
-
Mine was like that, though now it is working. Still.."Work In Progress."...
-
Whathever it was, they have fixed it about 30 minutes ago.
-
Yes, mine now back to "Work in Progress", yawn...
-
Hey guys.
I have just ordered a Dell which says that EDD is 08/03/2010!
It's a Studio 1558, i5-520M, WLED - I was under the impression that it was the i5 causing the delay?
ellnic. -
I dont think so mate, Sneer82 on this forum has ordered the same CPU as you and his shipped really quickly! I think the RGB screens are holding up the orders, i think youll find your will progress quite fast and be delivered well before the EDD!
