Dell is replcing my my m1530 with Alienware m15x?

I know alienware tends to be abit bulkier, but is this a good thing? Or should I request Studio XPS 16? Everything seems alot beeter then my current 1530 but not sure about the graphics card? I Here is what they are sending:

Is the geforce GT 240m equivlant or better then the 8600 gt?

 

240m is better by a long shot. check for yourself:

But its not as good as a HD4670, you could complain and say that you paid for a dell because of the looks and do not want an Alienware brand. Theyll most likely give you a SXPS 1645 or SXPS 1647. Personally, Id take a SXPS over alienware m15x any day, unless it has a 260m video card.

I am not a GPU expert, but the 240m GT looks to be slightly less powerful than the 4670 in the SXPS 16. On the other hand it looks to be nearly twice as fast in the 3DMark 2005 than the 8600 GT is. LINK

 

Isn't the Alienware like 9lbs? I'd take an SXPS over an Alienware any day.

 

Oh god, it's huge. Single handedly the LARGEST laptop I've EVER seen. If you like new newest, high-tech looking things then you might as well keep the M15x... it's pretty trippy. If you're a bit older and would prefer something a bit more refined, you better ask for an SXPS1640.

I say this because most older people don't like hundreds of super-bright LED's lighting everything up, and would rather have something more portable that they can easily carry around. (Of course, you could always just turn the LED's off if you don't like them.) =P

Looked at the dimensions o the Alienware, nice but...WAY TO BIG! Online with Dell now changing it to the sxps16. I have an 8600gt in there now, will this guarentee that I get the ati 4670?

 

Yes it will for sure but if I were you I would be even more specific dont settle for a less than a 1645/1647 imo. 1640 has flaws, there is no heatsink on the southbridge chipset and its gonna overheat your palmrest.

 

Bah, they wouldn't let me switch over to the Alienware line from the SXPS. I still have my 1645. But I'm on the fence about whether to be happy about it now that after throttling and LCD replacements I have to give up X-FI Soundblaster in order to stop persistent freezing.

I hear the Alienwares throttle harder than the 164X series though.

what happened to your 1530 that they are replacing it..

 

I bet those old 1530 will be refurb and put up at http://www.dell.com/outlet And sum poor soul might be unlucky and get them. Well if they r persistent they might get XPS 16 or M15X. Else it might be spares for those 1530 still under warranty.

 

I'd like to also know what happened to your M1530 that they are replacing it?

I had my M1530 replaced by another new M1530 early last year due to the 8600M GT overheating and my hard drive failing. Even now my 8600M GT gets so hot as well as the chipset (upwards of 90+ degrees celsius). The left side of the palmrest gets extremely hot. If they are allowing exchanges for these "faulty" machines I would be interested for a newer, current model either as good as or better than the M1530.
