As the subject says really.. Will the new 2.5" 500GB drives work in the Dell m1210. If not what's the largest size I can upgrade to please?

    Regards,
    Simon

Last I checked, the current 500GB drive for notebooks was a 12.x mm drive. It will not fit.

The largest you can currently get is a 9.5mm 2.5" 320GB SATA drive.

I think the Samsung spinpoint M6 500 Gb is 9.5mm.

Mind you, it's Samsung, so... your mileage may vary.

Both times I've had a Samsung drive, they died within two months. I would avoid them entirely, and I refuse to buy any product with a Samsung drive now.

But I'm guessing a 500GB 9.5mm will turn up soon enough from say WD?
Would this work if the size was right? I'm just wondering about BIOS issues, etc..

The Samsung HM500LI is a good, quiet, cool drive, but is said to have a high power consumption which would trouble you as it may slightly shorten battery life.

You can check out the WD5000BEVT (9.5mm), which will be hard to come by online atm, but should be a fast HDD with a +$200 price tag.

Or, you can wait for the soon to be released Seagate 7200.4

BIOS issue, best confirm from Dell if possible.
