I got a Dell XPS m1530 laptop with a 8600m in june and am really concerned about the recent video card debacle. Recently I have been unable to shut down the commputer or even hibernate/sleep it without it automatically restarting. Also my nvidia control panel will not load any more (error message), but there are no present video problems with my laptop. I just downloaded the new nvidia driver from dell, is this different form the new BIOS that was released because now my fan never stops running and my computer is still not fixed. Should I dld the BIOS? What can i do?

yes, dld the new bios. and that shoudln't be happening. the restarting.

When it restarts, can you shut it down from the log in screen?

If it was the GPU then there would be no video at all. Have you loaded new software recently? That could be affecting the symptoms you described. nVidia isn't even sure how many production chips were affected and the speculation is making everyone wonder if their gear is affected. My advice is to do a new reinstall or recovery installation and See if the symptoms reappears

No, no matter what I do (even closing the lid) the computer will automatically restart and itll say that windows was not shutdown properly. Will the a09 bios help me?
