I have had my laptop for just around 2 years now (no more warranty), and just last night it started locking up after about 10-20 mins of use, and the only way to turn it off is to take out the battery (i tried holding in the power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds and it does nothing). What actually happens when it locks up, is the screen is still working, and everything on screen goes about doing what it was doing (if i was watching a video it keeps playing etc.) however, the mouse stops working, i tried an external mouse and track pad, also i can not type anything. Also i dont have to be doing anything cpu or gpu intensive, it locks up just on desktop sometimes.

A few things I have noticed when trying to figure out the problem is when running in safe mode, it doesnt seem to lock up, also I tried running the laptop on my AC vent, and it didnt seem to lock up. I d/l a temp monitor, and both the cpu and gpu run at a safe temp (i think) about 40-50 C when it locks up. I tried propping my laptop up, and it did lock up.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? over heating? and what are my options with no more warranty left? Thank you

Any funny or different sounds coming from it? Any more noticeable heat? This could be caused by a number of different problems... Listen closely to your hard drive and make sure there is no clicking, although I wouldn't think it could be this because it probably would've stopped booting by now.

I was on my laptop for about 4-5 hours last night with it propped up and a fan pointing right at it, and it only froze once, so I am pretty sure its a heat problem. I am just a little confused at how I all of a sudden have heat problems? I noticed that my graphics card fan is working, but dont know anything about the other fans, I can feel air coming out of the back though. With heat problems, coming on so suddenly does this mean a fan went within the laptop? When my laptop is working its working without a problem, is my only option to just get a laptop fan dock thing? thanks

Open up your laptop and try to get the dust out of fan and vent using air duster?
