Maybe I should buy the cheapest spec'd out xps with the $400 SSD and buy the 17" hi res mbp with the stock hdd and sell the xps and keep the SSD and the 17" mbp. :)

Yeah, the one they use to pay for all of their marketing propaganda "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac" commercials.

I got something slightly more useful than a remote to stick in my expresscard slot on my XPS:

Its steeply priced, but it is the biggest portable SSD you can get right now that fits in an express card slot. The speeds are pretty good, although I installed XP on it as I intended to try some audio recording and it was abysmally slow - but its great for backing stuff up on straight off your main drive :]

Geez that's slower than USB drive lol. Too bad companies didn't jump on the ExpressCard SSD wagon or we'd see a lot better products.

Now that's an interesting product. Do you know whether a drive like that can be recognized by apps like Acronis Trueimage at boot? That thing would be ideal for storing disk images on, provided that it'd be seen when booting from Acronis boot CD's or from Acronis recovery manager.
