This is from the front page of Canadian Dell website:

I went on it, and it still shows the old Studio laptops...

Does anyone have any information on this?

I believe it's just referring to the recent update to the studio line. New GPUs etc... If you go to the studio section, it lists the laptops as "The New Studio 14" and so forth. It's really no biggy, as far as I know.

If you look @ the pics of it, its sorta different from the current U.S 1558. The 1558 in the pic has a wifi button on the left side, the express card reader, and the usb ports are beside the vga port.

same rear air vent, which will cause airflow blockage and maybe damage to the screen

OK, can someone.... anyone!... point me to a study/report/scientific paper/non-scientific, but well written source that says anything about warm air damaging an LCD screen... particularly when screen is separated from the warm air by a sheet of plastic. Or maybe even a few users who have had the XPS for a long time report how the screen looks around the exhaust vent? I think it's time this idea (that the screen *might* be damaged by the host) be tested, because guessing the something might be a problem isn't really helpful to anyone, unless you have a good reason to think it might be a problem.

I am waiting on this myself. Sounds like quite a bit of speculation. I have not specifically searched for any heat tolerance tests on screens but I bet it takes a lot more than the hot air coming off an exhaust to harm them. If there is any damage, it will probably take a long while and by that time you're ready for a new notebook anyway. My XPS 16 shows no changes in coloring or warping of materials near the vent and it is used heavily for several hours everyday. If sitting in a car for several hours in texas heat didn't do anything to it, I am thinking I am safe with an ambient temp of 120 degrees. ;-)

BTW, I am waiting to see this rumored studio touch 15 dell may roll out.

While gaming for hours, my SXPS 16 will get hot and blow some very hot air out the vent but I have never had any issue with my screen. I don't know what some people are experiencing.

I think the new studios Dell is referring to are very slightly different style wise but the main difference are the CPU and GPU configurations.

Probably not, but on the other side of the fence it would be hard for Dell to convince me that the vent design/location is better than the average laptop. What we do know is that it blows crud on the screen and the laptop runs warmer under load with the screen open than closed.

Ofcourse. The vent design is complete idiocy, but speculation about screen damage is probably mostly unhelpful and unwarranted.
