Dell tried replacing my xps15 1920x1080 HD screen with the inferior Studio 1555 HD screen. Said they do not have any AUO17ED screens, even for warranty replacement. Has his happened to anyone else?

they have a shortage of 1080p displays so it's not surprising
-
studio 15 screen = AUO10ED, AKA B156HW01 v0
xps 15 screen = AUO17ED, AKA B156HW01 v4
the type without the vesion number means nothing, except that is is an Blue led(?) 15.6 inch, High res (1080p) Widescreen monitor, i havent figured out what the " 01" part means. Except that it is always 01.
notice the studio 15 screen is actualy mislabeled as "B156HW 1 when you try to read the type number. -

Pretty poor support, much worse than I have experienced in the past with Dell. Thinking about just returning the laptop and waiting for SB on a new XPS or Alienware... -
b156hw01 v4 - Google Search
you can find the spec sheet of v0 (300cd/m, 700:1), v1 (same as v0), v3 (1:300-1:400) and v4 (xps 15 panel) online., also, according to anandtech v5 is a sub-250 contrast panel whit mediocre color gamut and brightness.

I want to order a new panel to replace my parents xps 15s cr*ppy low res display but im not sure now which one is actually better...
oh and btw, they r both on ebay and sell at roughly the same price.. -
this is v4, v0 reads 60%
i should mention these specs are not very exact, viewing angles are mostly bullcrap and contrast is sometimes way off, for example: the xps 17 screen claims 400-500:1, in reality it is closer to 200:1. your best bet would be reviews.
also, im not entirely sure the xps 15 panel is indeed v4 hoever, it is the only 15.6" 1080p panel i found with higher color gamut than 60.
the spec sheet release date is also very close to the xps introductie date.
if it is not v4, its probably v7, judging by the "AUO17ED" number. although i cant find any records of it on the internets.
reviews on
v0 (also seen in studio 15)
v4 (xps 15)
v5 (N53JF, please note european versions seem to be equiped whit far superior v0's) -
-
if the xps screen is really v4, yes
happy new year -
Glad that i got my xps 15 with FHD screen and backlit kb!
that everyboyd here seems to be missing! -
so if ur in europe i guess its better to choose the DIY way and order the screen on ebay! -
-
google B156HW01 v4, should give a bunch of sellers
-
U can get the B156HW01 V.4 or the B156HW01 V.5 both on ebay. Safe to assume that the v4 is the better panel, correct?
-
-
oh , i meant V4 >.<
*edits post* -
What about v7? Is it better than v4?
-
it does probably not exists, but if you check the names of the screen:
AUO1 0ED: v0
AUO1 1ED: v1 (not sure, the only place i seen this panel is in the Wled xps 16)
AUO1 7ED: v4
it just doesnt match, however im fairly certain AUO17ED, aka the xps 15 screen, is v4, it matches whit the spec sheets online quite well (mostly because it is the only 15.6" panel whit higher color gamut the the mediocre 60%, also it is 1080p) -
So who's gonne be the guineau pig and buys the #B156HW01 v4 for a review? If it is indeed the same panel and as gorgeous as advertised, I'm definately gonna be buying one.
-
Is B156HW01 v4 from AUO the best 15.6'' screen available on the market? Then what are LG, SHARP, SAMSUNG and other big names doing in the competition?!
-
there is one, just one, screen that is better: HP's 15.6" dreamcolor 2 IPS, all i know is that it is an LG part (LGD0220)
however, as far as i know, there is noone arund that knows the panel ID, and even if it is: it'l cost you alot of pennies, HP charges €550 for the 17" version.
you can buy 2x 22" IPS panels for that during sales
you can find this screen in the 85x0W series
seriously though, i dont think it is worth the trouble, the ips panel might not even fit.
but still, if you want the best display and got the money for it, the dreamcolor 2, as HP calls it, is your best bet, i think anandtech reviewed the 17" piece not long ago. -
-
i figured out the 768p panel id in the xps 15: B156 XW02 v2 (the X is AUO code for 1366*768 resolution)
this screen is around £55 online -
@ Darkstone: cud u maybe provide some link to the specs of that ips screen too? i cudnt find any infos on LGD0220...
-
thats what i said: i have no idea what the panel ID is.
screenshot of specs are taken from HP's website, i think
LGD0220 isnt the actual panel id, it is the id that you see in device manager, like AUO17ED.
the difference is that i was luckey enough to find the spec sheet days before release of the anandtech review because the studio 15 screen i was looking for has a similair number. When reading the anandtech review i recalled that i saw a spec sheet whit the exact same color gamut nog long ago.
the panel id for the 17 part is probably LP171WUx-XXXx, the 15" part is probably LP156W*x-XXXx where * is whatever letter LG uses for its 1080p panels (too lazy to find out) -
hmmm i guess i might wanna get this ips panel for my xps15 and use my good auo screen in my parents xps15 ...
whats the name of the hp laptop that has that panel?
why do u think the ips panel might not fit? -
elitebook 85x0W, check hp's site, the screen is called dreamcolor 2 IPS
i dont know if it fits or not, you have to find one first to take a look at the locations of the connectors and blacklight. -
I consider to buy glossy one... Any experience about quality of this one?
-
Say, can somebody who has the DreamColor2 display post the real device ID of the thing? The ATI binary drivers for Linux should give you the real device ID in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and for Windows, "HP Performance Tuning Framework" should tell you as well.
I'm trying to find out if it'd be feasible to buy one separately for use with a non-laptop system, since the DC2 display together with the laptop is ungodly expensive.
(I've also asked this about the 17-inch one, in the second 8740w owners' lounge.) -
Somebody over here:
[Oproep] Screenies MonitorAssetManager voor panelDB laptops - Complete Systemen & Laptops - GoT
will open his notebook to take a look, the panel ID is hidden when you try to read it out using various tools.
i will post it here when he does. -
update: right now i'm not so sure the B+RG screen is really v4.
The v4 datasheet i have apears to be lenovo specefic matte version of the b+rg screen. With lower contrast. -
yes according to this dutch posters, the auo17ed might indeed not be the B156HW01 v4 !!
some in this dutch forum forum tend to think the auo17ed is the B156HW01 v7 ?? -
Yes, the dutch poster with my name
Of course, this posts helps too: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/547014-1080p-screen-upgrade-4.html#post7055201
Unfortunately, the only google hit on that panel ID is that thread. Would be nice if we had the datasheet to be sure.
V4 can be found here: http://www.yslcd.com.tw/Docs.aspx if you look closely, you see various lenovo specefic strings and the fast the panel described in the datasheet is matte. -
ohhh, so u actually speak dutch, cooool ;D
so basically did anyone in that forum confirm the v7 notion? -
not.. yet, but everything points to it.
I know i said the same thing whit v4.. but this time i'm really sure. Of course a man can make mistakes.
I'm a native dutch speaker btw. -
lool ok so now we just need to find a spec sheet and supplier for the v7 ;P
-
Yea, let me know when you find it.
-
-
Any update Darkstone?
-
Not yet. Still unable to find v4.
-
I have the 720p screen and would like to replace it, is this impossible?
-
Hi Guys,
I have an extra new/unused/unopened AUO B156HW01 V.7 screen with the matching FHD Dell LVDS cable available for anyone who wants it. I am just looking to get what I paid for it since I already installed all the other screens I ordered with it. PM me if interested.

I can't send a PM or find a way to contact you. Can you email me at Jacob.Craig AT gmail DOT com? I just dropped my XPS L501x laptop w/FHD 1080p screen.
