    Old L501x:
    i5 480m
    GT 420M

    New L502x
    i7 2630QM
    GT 525M
    Backlit keyboard

Should I have asked for the 2720QM and GT 540M?

Uh, it would have been nice if they had offered it, but I wouldn't push my luck since that 502 is a pretty decent upgrade.

lol wow a L501x with a replacement already? Good thing I haven't bought a new XPS

Ya the new specs seem fair, you are even getting a Sandy Bridge quad core, it blows away the older Clarksfield quad core i7's. How much RAM are you getting?

    4GB RAM
    500GB HD
    Full HD screen 1080p

My L501x laptop had 2 replacement screens, 2 keyboards, 2 palmrest/touchpad and new speakers and subwoofer...

Still... I rate Dell 10/10 for their service, they sent a tech out 3 times next business day for no extra charge...

If the new system also has the FHD, then you got a decent upgrade even, ignoring the fact that Sandy>>>Clarksfield. You got an i7 replacement for an i5. Hoping you got the FHD though...otherwise Dell should shove it. 420m->525m seems about right, though 540m would definitely have been nice. It isn't a massive difference from my understanding between the 2 anyway.

Ya the 525M is only marginally better, still the quad core SB i7 was in itself a huge upgrade. RAM isn't a big issue, an easy CRU to upgrade.

Yeah, it's popular to rip Dell's support, but I've had my 1530's palmrest assembly replaced twice (World of Warcraft kills touchpad buttons) and the mainboard replaced due to the NVIDIA timebomb. Next day service each time.

Do you mind telling us the circumstances in which you qualified for such a replacement? And how many times did your L501x need to be serviced before you qualified for a replacement?

Oops, I guess I missed that. No one deserves to go through the degree of inconvenience as the OP did. However I am still curious as to how the offer of a replacement was brought to the table. Did you suggest it or have to negotiate it?

I'm curious about this also. The system is still relatively new, and that is really not a lot of serious failures compared to some older XPS models currently being replaced 2009-2011.

Awesome! I had over 5 repairs of same issues ,and was after given 2 replacements with similar problems, offered a new l502x. Or since I had an xps14, a new alienware M14X.I'm glad to see more people getting better service from dell support.Good luck with the l502x it can be a nice machine. For the posters who asked how to get a replacement, all I can say is I was told "no way will we give you a new xps15 for a 14"then after a few more issues and reps I finaly got hold of a corporate excec and all of a sudden Im rockin a loaded M14X next day ship,FREE!!!! Well, if you consider 6 months of hell free........

Could you elaborate in greater detail on how you managed to get in contact with "a corporate exec" and how you jumped from a Dell to an Alienware?

I have posted for a few months the hell I went through, look up dell is the worst thread.I and a few others with similar issues posted how many problems we had.It took about 5 or 6 repairs hard drives etc, then techs that couldn't get it to boot. After arguing with about 20 so called supervisors etc,I finaly got a call out of the blue from a corporate resolution specialist. He appologized for all my documented issues then offered me an xps15r2/2720/8gb ram/gt5402gb/b+rg1080p screen/basicly loaded. Then I got it and it was much bulkier than my original xps14.So another corporate manager said you have been a long loyal customer,(i have 3 alienwares)so I dont understand why you weren't offered an m14x.To which I said" I agree that would be more suitable as a 14 in replacement"a week later, I now have a new Red M14X/2720/8gb 1600mghz ram/gt5553gb/6250wifi/hi def screen/etc.But trust me I would have preferred paying in full rather than what it took to get it, 6 months later. Now I have an xps15l502x/& my M14x and so far not a single issue. The alienware is light years ahead in build quality, even the alienware tech support is better.I have an m11x and an m17r3 problem free from day 1.Except a minor hinge issue on m11x fixed in 15 minutes. That's why I'm truly happy for anyone who gets good service quickly, and the thread starter seemed to fit that description.

I posted about this before a bunch of times.I know the search function is bad on here, but Ive had problems from day 1 and I bought 2 laptops and had problems with both.So before anyone jumps to conclusions I didnt get 2 free laptops. And believe me imho,I would've paid double and been better off in the long run.But to be clear,I was told dell doesn't exchange alienware for xps.Well I have gotten an alienware for an xps.It all depends on who you talk to,and how many issues you have.I paid, on record for 4 alienwares.I have 3 now.I also, even with all I went through, am happy with the outcome. But remember how much the xps14 was?I paid as much as the M14x anyway. So I recieved no special service and there are people getting alienware's for 3 year old machines right now, check the alienware dell replacement threads I'm far from the first or only one guys. And again I want to wish all good luck and am glad to see Dell finaly giving some real good service without making you jump through hoops.

The old XPS WAS an Alienware system basically. Dell's policy is to give you an "equivalent modern-day system". So those that have say the m1730 with SLI are supposed to get an M18x since that is now Dell's only SLI/X-Fire system. You just have to keep pressing to make sure you get what you are supposed to. Like you said joe, you paid a lot for the m14x, you shouldn't get a system worth 1/2 what you paid in return for a replacement.

Thank you Madmattd,You are 100% correct.Even if you don't have a hundred issues,Dell replaces with as good or better. That's the policy, unfortunately depending on who you get on the phone, it can be a real pain reminding dell of whats equal or better. We should all get what we pay for, and I paid close to the m14x anyway, and it was only a few months in when they discontinued the xps14.I would have got the m14x to begin with as I said before, but it wasn't available when I bought the xps.

Big emphasis on the part I highlighted. If the person on the phone is just an idiot and refuses to give you an equivalent, as for a manager. Keep pushing, do not accept less unless you want to (and why would you want less...?)

Right again madmattd.I had to speak to so many idiot's telling me a manager wasn't available or would call back etc.I got fed up and a buddy of mine called a corporate manager, and all of a sudden It was like dealing with a whole different company! I can't stress enough,if you get a bad tech or support do not give up.Dell can be very erratic to say the least, but in the end at least imho they finaly did the right thing.

Or do what I did...write a nasty letter to Dell. I used the "unresolved issues" form that some person on the phone sent me to since on one wanted to resolve my issues, but a lot of people get good results writing to [email protected] or something like that. I don't have the exact email address, sorry, but most people that use it seem to get resolutions fast.

My letter must have left a smoking crater in their server...they called me back the next business day at 9AM. The letter was sent at like 11PM...and I lit into them...I had spent some 8-10 hours on the phone playing the transfer dance...

It should fit so if Dell lets you, why not (are they asking for the system back? Never had to do a replacement situation like this before). Then you have 2!

I had 3 replacements, and I sent one back the day I got a replacement order confirmation,of course I got a call from dell a week after getting the replacement, they didnt know why I sent them a pc.LOL,then the next time I held onto the pc until I got the new one and saw it was good to go.So I sent that back,Dell again didnt have a record of my replacement,They did on one not on the other.I was sent 4 different shipping labels on the last one cuz I complained that the different dell divisions had some or no info on my order.Dell made so many mistakes with my system I couldv'e kept one..But it's truly not worth the hassle,My luck they would charge me 3 times,a year later.lol to this day if I call tech, depending on who I speak to they still don't have the right info sometimes,I always have to waste another hour or more before I get the customary I'm sorry mr,blah. blah,we found your info, how can we help you today?Lmao
