    Hello,

im from Germany, my english is not very good but i try to explain my problem. So i bought a Dell Studio Xps 13 and today they delivered it. I was very happy and started the notebook, it looks very great. But after a few minutes on windows vista it freezes, so i restarted it and 1 minuted later it freezes in vista again. This happend 3 times and now it works stable ... but i dont know why it freezes, it wasnt warm or hot ... it was cold. So please can you say me what i can do or what is the reason why it freezes ?

I just purchased a Dell Studio XPS 13 last Monday (9th) at a BestBuy store. Unfortunately, I have exchanged it 4 times within a week because both all them have dust under their screen. I got a BlueDeath screen once, and one error of dumb memory. Especially, the 2nd one has a junk spacebar key. Its black layer on the bottom bumps up, so it makes the spacebar higher than another key.

I am waiting for my 4th replace (brand new of course), and all the previous one are brand new also. >___<

Is it maybe a driver problem ? Should i reinstall Vista and all Drivers ? Or do you think it is a hardware problem ?

    Dave -
I recommend reinstalling Vista cleanly. There are a lot of people here with freezing issues. I got mine, it froze in a few minutes, didn't even think twice. Clean install of Vista and the drivers and everything's been perfect. You will lose out on Dell's webcam software and the facial recognition for the time being, but I have a feeling those things will surface on Dell's website soon.

The webcam and facial recognition software, along with any other software you purchased with your system, can actually be downloaded at downloadstore.dell.com/media. Just make sure to use IE when you register for the service, as it requires an ActiveX control.

When doing the clean install, did anyone install any Dell-specific software from the drivers site, like the "Dell System Software" utility and "QuickSet"? I ask this because the "Dell System Software" is listed as 'Urgent' and it also notes "If you are reinstalling the operating system it is important that this software be installed first."

I didn't install any of the Dell software. No idea what the system software does, but the quickset gives some on screen displays and, from what I've read, more problems.

I will advice you to do a clean installation once you get your system from factory. Remove the dell partition and create your own partition
Then install vista and load the drivers from rescue disk
Note: click drivers in driver CD.. there will be link to view the order of the installtion of the drivers, install in that order
Install Dell system software first and continue as in the document

    good luck
