As this is a dell section convince me to get a Dell studio xps 1640 over a Unibody Macbook or Macbook Pro.
What I like about the MB/MBP is the solid aluminum chassis. Anyways what makes the Dell better then the MB/MBP ?
Reasons not to go to mac: Can't upgrade the cpu(is sodded on)
Comparable specs 400.00 more.
Thanks

First of all:
XPS 16 is cheaper, has a 1080p RGB LED screen, is bigger.
That's what I know for sure, what I'm not sure of is:
has a better graphics card? Did dell update them all to the 4650? -

With all the problems with dell support and dell products that i have been having in work and with friends new dell laptops i would say go with the apple. ITs much better being able to go to an apple store and having them repair your laptop then being on the phone with india for 4 hours then having to ship your laptop to dell. (yes i have even had this with xps support).

Its a pretty sweet rig with the 3670. The 4670 should be insane.. I guess it might sap more power as well (I'd have to look at the tech specs of the 4670 to be sure

Anyway, I think the look and feel of the OS should be the main factor in deciding which laptop to buy. If you love the Mac OS and are satisfied with the software available for it, then go for it. You could even run Windows on it if you decide.
Remember to spec the Mac with a 7200 rpm hard drive. -
You can get a SXPS 16 for about 3/4 of the price of a similarly spec'd Mac book or Mac book Pro
-
Regardless of the hardware, you're comparing OSX to Windows. If you really don't care about using OSX then don't splurge on the extra money - simple as that.
-
Its sounds like you want a Mac; just buy it and be done with it. Whats an few extra dollars when you can have a Mac?

Ordered Studio XPS 1640 on Jan. 8th. Took delivery a couple of weeks later. Sent it back one week later.
Bought a Mac 4 weeks ago.....Still no BSOD!!!
You get what you pay for.

We can't convince you to buy a system when it appears you are already sold on a Macbook Pro. It comes down to personal preference. I just prefer Windows to OSX, just seems more professional and common to the business world.

Just an FYI-
I just switched from the MBP to the Studio XPS 16 and couldn't be happier. If you need to do any REAL work with your machine other than video editing, the Mac is not for you. Also, I don't know how much you will need to use it, but Office 2008 is complete garbage. Once the novelty of the Mac wears off you realize you are sacrificing a lot of little things just to own a "sexier" machine. Eventually they get to you and you'll be back to using a PC. -

I broke my HDD, and broke my pad button, and when I need the new HDD or the replacement for the button dell sent a technician to my home and fix my laptop, no question asked!!!..even with my customized and warranty voided laptop because I replace my LCD screen and my lid from black to red.
(of course, they don't know I did that..)
Dell have a great support and warranty, if they can not fix your laptop on your home they send a prepaid box for a replacement laptop, I read in this forums some users who actually received a upgraded laptop!!
And about Maple warranty .. sorry I don't trust in Steve customer method "bring your laptop to my store and we call you in a few weeks"
