So this morning I was working on my laptop and everything was working just fine, and I had updated both adobe reader and java and decided that it would be a good idea to restart. Wrong. Now my laptop is stuck on the bios fash screen and I cannot get it to past 80%. It won't let me enter the bios or anything. I have removed the hard drive and tried removing the RAM to no avail. I didn't do any updating of the Bios before I restarted or anything. Any help that anyone coud give would be great. I really need to try and get it back up and running for school.
Dell XPS 1645

Also I tried to flash the bios from the guides on this forum and that didn't work either. usb drive would flash for about 2 sec then everything else stayed the same. sometimes when I try to reboot it and flash the volume down ligh flahses but nothing else happens. No activity from the USB and Bios stil hangs at 80%

If your BIOS even starts to load, the emergency flashing method probably won't work, it only helps if you're completely bricked. I've bricked mine a few times, and the emergency flashing procedure has always worked for me. However, I tried to do the emergency flash when everything was running normally just to test it out, and nothing happened.
Try removing the battery and the power cord. Hold the power button down for 30 sec to completely clear the memory. Release the button. Press and hold the power button again, and insert the power cord (battery is still removed) while holding the power button down. Release the power button once the 3 volume touch buttons begin to flash (a few seconds after power up). This should do a complete reset of the BIOS. Shut it back down, replace the battery, and turn on normally. Give it at least a few minutes to POST. If it still doesn't boot, you may have some kind of hardware issue, and will need to call Dell support (if still under warranty), or perhaps replace the motherboard yourself if not. -
Sorry it has taken so long to reply school and all that lol. I ended up getting a new laptop but I would still like to try and fix the old one. Do you know where I can find out the right motherboard to replace it with? I'm not going to call DELL about it because last time I tried I was on hold and transferred back an forth between different people for over 2 hours before being hung up on. I have found two different motherboards on ebay but not really sure which one is the right one. I do have the stand alone ATI card if that helps at all. If there is a place to look on the motherboard I'll take a look there but don't really want to rip it all apart before having the parts to put back in there if the model # isn't on the motherboard.
Thanks.
