You have to buy warranty.

What kind of warranty was it?
I was offered 5 years for about 600bucks after taxes, and I took it.
It's only basic @ home warranty though.
The offers are usually very expensive for 1 yr extention, so I went for the longest term that gave me cheapest per year price. -

Take out the accidental. It costs heaps more if you keep it.
-
Doesn't warranty transfer over to the new system?
-
Old warranty will, but doesn't mean it will extend the dates.

Mine has started to die again. It's only been 6 months since my last motherboard replacement =/ I should have a 1 year warranty on that correct? Who is the best contact point to get a replacement sent? I tried to argue that when my gpu crapped out last time by citing the gpu being a known defect but the CSRs I talked to weren't having it. I'm sick of being without a laptop for a couple weeks while it's stuck at depot/broken and would rather they just replace me with a laptop that isn't known to be broken. I'd love an m11x, even another Core 2 Duo one.

My M1330 and replacement attempt story:
I've had my M1330 for almost 3 years (with the 3 year warranty). It has been repaired many times: multiple motherboard replacements for dead NVidia 8400s, screens, and hard drive. I still really like the system (nice size and style), but wish it was more reliable (especially since I paid around $2500 for it when it was first released).
A couple weeks ago the NVidia 8400 died again. A tech swapped out the motherboard, but left it in bad state: CPU throttles to slow speed constantly, and the built-in speaker no longer works.
Since the warranty was almost out, I complained using the unresolved issue form and asked for a newer replacement system that does not use an NVidia 8400.
I played phone tag with the rep who called me for a couple weeks until they finally called during hours I was available. I argued for a refund, and they offered a refurbished M1340 / Studio XPS 13 as a replacement. I eventually said if they email me the specs for a replacement system to approve before sending it to me, I would consider it.
Instead, a few days later a refurbished Studio XPS 16 (1645) shows up on my front porch. I was upset: they never emailed me the specs for my approval, and it is just too large. The system specs are nice (Core i7 840QM, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM SATA drive, ATI 4670) but the system is too large to be easily portable IMHO. It also has a small problem: the backlight on the multimedia touch control panel also flickers visibly.
I sent a stern email to the corporate support rep, expressing my dissatisfaction and asking for a specific Alienware M11x R2 configuration (Core i7) even though I don't like the styling (or the lack of a gigabit ethernet, eSATA, or ExpressCard). They tried calling me back at the end of Friday when I was in a meeting, so now we start playing phone tag again.
I'm hoping for an Alienware M11x R2 or a refund (and may get a HP Envy 14 or Sony Vaio Z instead).
Good luck to everyone else dealing with similar issues. -
To everybody who got their XPS replaced with an Alienware m11x: How long did it take Dell to replace it? Mine says "shipped" on the website but at the same time, UPS doesn't know the package number and the shipping details say "0kg" and "0 parcels"...

Exchange procedure question: I got my sxps 16 a couple days ago, but they didn't send an extra box or shipping label or anything for me to send my m1330 back with. Is this normal? Do I have to bug them to get them to send me shipping materials to send back my old machine?

So my M1330 had vertical lines again on last Sunday...I called Dell and told the rep to send me a new motherboard (I didn't check this thread out so yea, I did a dumb move) On Tuesday I got the mobo and replaced it by myself (this is the 3rd mobo). After that I found out this thread so I sent an email to Dell to express my concern of potentially dying M1330 mobo. Then a rep sent me an email saying that he could replace my M1330 with SXPS16. However, today he called me saying I was approved for a M1340 replacement (yea, refurb) but not SXPS16...sigh...But, that M1340 will come with 8GB ram, 256GB SSD. So, I think I am going to take it if there is a gd video card, which he hasn't told me yet.
I wanna ask if M1340 is a more reliable laptop than M1330? -
that's a long journey from M1210. Gotta love dell.

Ask Dell to see your service history...then said you are tired on a non reliable product and it really affects you...I didn't say a lot...just a complain email then everything started...

Google Dell unresolved issues. That usually works if you are in the U.S.
