Hello,
Dell xps 15 l502x - After reinstall of fresh windows, fan is always on? Why?
I just reinstalled fresh windows, and before my fan was always quiet on the stock dell windows. I also have the latest bios which is suppose to solve the fan issues.
My fan is always on, sometime it turns off for awhile, but then starts up again.
It did not happen on the dell windows at all!
I also have all the drivers and everything installed....
Can someone please tell me if this can be fixed?
Thanks.

Hi awaisuk,
It could be really annoying when the computer fan is always ON. Please give me an opportunity to take care of this; it can be fixed for sure as I have resolved these issues before.
I would like to confirm that the fresh installation of Windows has nothing to do with the computer fan being ON always. I appreciate that you have also installed the latest BIOS to get the issue resolved.
I suggest you to perform the following steps and check with the results:
1. Click Start and type Power Options in the search bar
2. Select Power Options, a window comes up to select a power plan which would have 2 options: Balanced (recommended) and Power Saver.
3. Select Change plan settings for the preferred plan selected in this window.
4. On the change plan settings screen, click Change advanced power settings
5. Scroll down to Processor Power Management and System Cooling Policy` (Expand them both to view the options).
6. Under System Cooling Policy, change the options for On Battery and Plugged In from Active to Passive.
7. Click Apply and click Ok.
Also I would suggest you to flash the system BIOS by downloading it from the following website:

Please reply back with the results. I would be more than happy to help you.

Hi There,
I have changed the System Cooling Policy option as well as flashed the BIOS and the fan is still on all the time...
Please advise -
Hi awaisuk,
If the BIOS has already been updated restore the BIOS Setup to Factory Defaults.
1. Clean the Fan and Vents with Compressed Air.
2. Drain the Flea Power. Power down the computer. Remove all power sources (AC Power Adapter, Battery). Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Done. Reattach the AC Power Adapter and power on the computer.
3. Run Dell Diagnostics to test the system fan and thermal sensors. If the fan fails in the diagnostics it will have to be replaced.
Kindly reply with the results.
Thanks & Regards
