    Can be done,

take it all apart, figure out how to disconnect the digitizer,
find out the original LCD panel part number,
find out the LVDS cable part number.

Essentially what you are trying to do is figure out how the touch screen works: Laptop screen repair, touch screen repair [HP TX2500] - YouTube
and if you can salvage it.

Then, you'll need to find a compatible FHD model number based of your current model. (I can help with that)

And lastly you will need to find out if your cable from mobo to LCD driver is FHD (difference is in lead count, non-FHD cables are missing "channel-B" leads. If not, you will need to find out the Dell p/n for FHD cable and order it from them or eBay.

P.S. Would you also like to make it 120HZ and/or 3D capable?

You are able to do it yourself to swap out the 720p for the fhd 1080p b+rgled screen. The dell part number is X7C4. It will not be a touch panel.

This 120Hz upgrade mentioned got my interest. I wouldn't mind upgrading mine to that. I haven't gotten my laptop yet, it is still in the build progress stage until the 21st. I am getting the 1080p screen but I would have preferred a matte finish.

According to my view, Dell XPS (Xtreme Performance System) is a line of gaming and performance computers manufactured by Dell. Please produce some more attachments about the topic for view detail information.

I too am in the process of looking to change my 1366x768 screen to a FHD version.
I have been pointed in the right direction of where to obtain a genuine FHD screen but I still have questions about the cable.
Can you or anyone else possibly expand on what 'channel b' leads are and how to tell if they are present or absent on my current display cable?
I opened my laptop last week and discovered the following:
    Model number: CN-OTGMNC-74876-1AL-023E-AOO
    DP/N OTGMNC
