    Hi,

I had a dell studio 1569 and that had some real problems with it. I went back and forth with dell for a long time and finally they replaced my 1569 for a dell xps l502x that was pretty loaded although refurbished. This was great until I noticed a crack in the display a few months later, which then went all across the screen. So I ordered a replacement LCD through Dell and I was really upset to spend $100+ on a part for a replacement laptop.

Fast forward and I am sitting at my table with my laptop pretty well disassembled, and I seem to have received the wrong LCD. Part number b156xw02 v.2 and my previous one was lp156wh2 15.6" hd. Basically I followed a YouTube video and it was working pretty well until I tried to remove a ribbon connecting the bottom of the display to the back plastic display assembly case. Ribbon might have torn and maybe it wasn't supposed to be removed anyhow.

I noticed a comment about someone having a touch screen display and that's what mine was, so that would be the problem. Feeling foolish, hopefully something can be salvaged. I'm guessing the thick gold ribbon I removed from the cracked display related to the touch screen, maybe. Any advice would be really appreciated. I was still able to use my laptop before, it just had that crack line through the screen. I think I can put it back together but did I wreck the connection with that ribbon that went from the bottom middle of my previous screen to a board that attached to the display assembly?

Thanks so much, and I'll recover if I destroyed this laptop.

    Justin

Wow I am so happy and shocked. I pulled out the old display and it was apparently a touch screen module or something that was at the bottom middle of my display. So I removed that, attached my replacement display, put the thing back together, and IT ACTUALLY BOOTED UP! I am sure I broke all kinds of laptop repair rules, and I have a couple of extra screws next to me here. But still this computer is working!

I was worried, because even with a crack in the middle I still could use it for music/burning dvds, etc. Now I think the new screen has less resolution? I don't know but no crack, yay! I'm scared to move it around or anything, because it might fall apart, ha. This is a $900 or something laptop and all I had to pay was $100 for the new display. My previous Studio 1569 kind of sucked / integrated graphics card, oh well. Now I can play Fallout 3 New Vegas and it looks great. So proud of myself. I wasn't looking forward to using an old pc again. Solved my own problem, but if anybody had questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
