    Hello fellow nbr members.
I just wanted to ask a question about an issue I have with my dell.
About half a year ago, my laptop started running a lot hotter than normal.
The keyboard would be really hot to touch, especially the trackpad.

Another issue is that I hear a fan kick in whenever I just turn on my laptop, and it sounds like its coming from the back/left/bottom of the system. It spins as if I'm running 3 games at a time, but I usually am doing nothing at all. Whenever I put my hand in the back, I don't feel any air at all, as if there wasn't even a fan blowing.
If its worth noting - I did open it up to try to fix the problem by just vacuumed the fan (I put a toothpick there to keep it from spinning while I vacuumed). didn't help

Also my cpu does go from 11-50 ish % in the performance tab without me even doing anything. Iono if this is a related issue
Do you guys know what I should do?

    Thanks and happy holidays!

Surely you know about the heat issues with the nVidia 8400? Have any repairs been made? Are you on the latest BIOS - A15? If it hasn't been to Dell yet, get with them because they extended the warranty an additional year. Sounds like your video card is ready to go out.

Go to task manager process tab and see what's eating up your CPU time.

Well I called them and they told me it isn't an issue with the GPU. I think it has something to do with my fan, since it whirs like crazy but I don't feel any air coming out.....

Total BS. It sounds like your GPU is overheating which obviously makes the fan work harder. Call them back and tell them you have the nVidia GPU and you had "lines" on the screen and now it won't boot at all. Don't let them off easy!

I had heating issue too, but it was because of all the dirts accumulating near the vents preventing air from escaping. Make sure you clean that.

Dell is giving you BS & Cow Dung, call Dell and ask to speak to a line manager.
Now at this point you give Dell all the BS & Cow Dung about white screen rainbow effects lines on boot up over heating, don't settle without getting your rig checked over better still mobo and cooling unit replaced. Fight your case young man..
NOTE: if you do get replaced parts make sure the Tec carries out a full test of the M1330, audio, mic, webcam, rom drive, media keys, shut down and reboot, internet, plus Dell diagnostic test. Do not sign off the work without checking the laptop as above.
Why you may ask because it's a fact that many Tec damage cables or connectors and sometimes parts are left unconnected.

I think you should extending warranty up to 48 month then use Nvidia warranty(12 month) to up to 60 month for piece of your mind for next 2 years.
Is $130 for 1 year or 2 years?

Sound like not GPU issue. You should see rainbow color vertical lines or total white screen when GPU has this issue.
If Dell agree to fix GPU then they will replace mother board and cooling pipe and fan so your over heat issue will be fixed also.

Do you remember what happened half year ago?
You may want to try undervolt your CPU to lower the temp.
    See this guide.

I have a similarly-aged M1330 and just had the headsink assembly replaced. My tech who replaced my DVD-RW as it was broken mentioned that the fan did not spin correctly and was dirty. He also replaced the panel over the WWAN/WLAN cards.

He did this work with the copper mod in place.....he seemed genuinely interested that it could be done and knew why.

My HWMonitor tells me that I've dropped about 6 degrees celsius on average running temperature (Win7/64/Pro).

I'm happy I still have over 700 days warranty - HDD, GPU, DVD failures to report (one each). Excellent service for the fixes though.
