I was speaking to someone on live chat and they said, if you upgraded the hdd or ram with dell components then its fine,
But if you upgrade the hdd or ram with 3rd party components it voids the warranty. is this true?
Surely it cant be, For example the lcd screen is not going to be affected by the change of ram or hdd so should still be warranted
-
They wont even know that you changed it.
The HDD/RAM are CRU parts (customer replace/repairable unit) -
Yeh but like, what if i change the ram and hdd, and sell the old ram and hdd, and say something goes wrong with the lcd screen or cpu. Can i sent it to dell with my new ram and hdd in it, and they will fix it ?
-
Remove them before sending the laptop, or you might never see them again.
-
Will they fix a laptop tho, with no ram or hdd in it lol?
-
They wont touch it if it has aftermarket parts. Thats the limited warranty policy, only factory parts.
You just need to install the standard parts back on before shipping it off to waranty -
What if i remove them, guess they wont fix that either ?
-
The HDD, maybe. If it has sensitive and important information they might let you hold on to it.
If they believe the HDD is part of the problem then you will have to send it it -
Well, if you upgrade the ram from 1GB, just get another stick of 2GB. 3GB is enough for vista. As for the harddrive, depends what type you have..you will probably only get 20-40$ from it. So just keep it incase anything goes wrong and plus you will have a backup one. Just remove the ram if anything goes wrong if you have to send it in. They wil never know
Dell xps m1530 - Warranty void if I upgrade ram/hdd - True or false ??
