Hi guys I brought a xps m1730 and I have found a problem I plug in the power adapter the blue light comes on but when I plug it in the laptop the blue light on the adapter goes out can anyone tell me why that is
It's got a new motherboard and keyboard
Could it be the cpu or the ram that is at fault
Thanks hope someone can help me

Has the machine powered up at all and was the board already used when you bought it? If refurb you probably gotten a potato, either the charger has an issue or something is wrong enough with the board for the psu to turn off which is a bad sign. I am thinking strongly that something is wrong with the board.
I got two of these machines and have seen a few of them pop up on eBay with dead boards. Dead cpu, ram, and graphics card won't turn off the charger when just being plugged in. -
could it be the power adapter connector on the board that's at fault

Are you sure the power adapter is good? Try testing it if you aren't sure, and if you can't do that i'd just replace it unless its new. Cheaper to do that than the whole laptop.

Power adapter is new and works when not plugged in to laptop

The light coming on is not a 100% reliable indication of it working. If, as I expect, the PSU has a 19.5V DC output then it should work with most other Dell notebooks and the PSU from another Dell notebook work with the m1730 (at least under light usage). If you can find another Dell notebook then try powering it with the m1730 PSU. However, as others are suggesting, there is a fault with the m1730 so that it's overloading the PSU (which would cause the light to go out) then it would be prudent to not plug the other PSU into the m1730.

Hi guys just tested the power adapter with a multi meter and it's 19.42v so that's okay
What else could it be is it the motherboard plug connector -
Hi guys I have striped my xps m1730 right down to the motherboard and bit by bit back on and turn the power on until the light on the power goes out and it's the touch pad mouse when I plug that on to the motherboard and turn it on there is no power so I think it's that any help pls
