I'm about to order a 1530 with dell's 256 8600m GT.
I read in another thread on this forum that the card have been proven to be DDR3, which I hear (sorry I'm not too tech friendly) is supposed to be a fair sight better than DDR2.
Problem is, I called dell and their tech guy told me that the card is DDR2.
Has dell changed (downgraded? why?) the card? Or is the dell guy just an idiot?
What's the deal?

Possibly an idiot, because the notebook itself has DDR2 RAM. That might explain the mix-up.

The Dell guy is probably an idiot. The card is known to be DDR3, which is a significant improvement over DDR2.
It is generally best to take statements from the bottom-rung techies with a pinch of salt unless it is confirmed by someone high up. -
That's good to hear. Thanks a bunch guys.

nobody so far has said to have a DDR2 8600m gt in the forums so id think DDR3?

The XPS M1530's 8600M GT features 256MB of GDDR3 memory. Other 8600M GT's in other laptops feature DDR2 memory. Lowerend Dell laptops and some Apple's have 8600M GT with DDR2. But all XPS M1530's feature 8600M GT's with GDDR3.
