So here I am, with a fresh reformatted notebook, about to sell it in a couple of hours for $800. The warranty expired on 3/19/2009. HOWEVER, when installing the Dell Service Center, that date magically changed to 3/20/2010!!! Did Dell push the warranty by one year? It was rumored that they would because of the Nvidia 8600GT meltdowns. Now I almost regret selling my notebook knowing it's still covered for one more year. I was originally selling it for $900. Its pretty decked out too. 2.4GHz Penryn, 1680x1050 lcd, bluetooth/webcam/thumbprint/250GB hard drive/4GB RAM(user upgrade)/8600GT etc
The buyer just lucked out
Any thoughts?

They might have. I don't think they pushed the warranties ahead, but maybe they have, or you just got lucky? All I can say is, if it's still covered, sucks for you my friend.

After poking around the fine print, it looks like my on-site repair warranty ended 3/19/2009. Then my warranty was extended (still unclear why it was, but not complaining) to a RTD warranty ("return to depot")
I'm still digging around to see if anyone else had this RTD warranty after their original 1 year expired. -
here is a link to an article that was first published on this warranty rumor

I believe they only extended the GPU warranty 1 year.
i.e. if your GPU fails from now until 3/20/2010, they'll fix it but if the hdd dies from now till then, they won't bother.
I could be wrong though. -
I believe it's the whole notebook. There is another link in that article that takes you to an old Dell announcement about the situation.
Even if it were the hard drive that died, that is easily replaceable and would give me an excuse to put a 500GB hard drive in there -
After re-reading the article, I believe you're right and that its a GPU warranty.

I have a Dell XPS too. My warranty expired on 03/20/2009. The laptop had a meltdown 2 weeks after that and I was kinda pissed because I didn't renew it. Well, I called Dell, told them I wanted to renew the warranty for 3 more years and they said that there would be a $50 late renewal fee charge so I said OK (hell yeh) not telling them anything about my laptop already being dead for a couple of days now. I figured a new Motherboard was $400 + and the 3 year warranty was only $250, so it is one hell of a deal for me. I wonder if Dell would of still extended my warranty if I told them that my Laptop died after the expiration date? LOL
I checked warranties today and Noticed that I still had an RTD warranty until 02/20/2010 which I knew nothing about. Like I said, my original warranty expired 02/20/2009. I think Dell did extend the warranty for another year due the faulty NVidia Graphics Card on the MotherBoard.
Did Dell extend the warranty on XPS M1530
