I have a cheap 13" on offer but I looked at the first notebookcheck review and the screen just blatantly sucks for what I want to do, not bright enough and the sRGB like 65%, I noted the screen as SHP1420, that was the first i5 model, then I noted this review of the i7 a bit later on http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9350-2016-FHD-i7-6560U-Notebook-Review.168175.0.html
Screen SHP1449 and 350 nits AVG and close to 100% sRGB.
Now my friends 13" i5 he wants to sell is the SHP1449, so should I expect the above screen results?
id not even consider the first device, must have been a few disapointed buyers?

OEMs usually source parts from several places - most laptops come with 2-3 types of screen depending on which factory assembled it. It's luck of the draw usually.

I think they stuck with the 1449 as I havnt seen the older model screen on any of the later models of the 9350 generation.
The screen looks quite nice for a matte screen. Its up there with the ux310 1080p for specs. Although the ux310 costs a lot less clearly.
You pay for that Bezel ! -

Actually, you pay for the improved chassis stability and durability as well as Dell's NBD support - the UX310 is not nearly as sturdy as the XPS 13.

Ive never had an asus fail on me especially the ally lids and now unibodies. for $1000 less id take my chances. if however i could get a used xps 13 with some warranty left for a big discount id go that route. just had too many dells fail to trust them, just like my apple MBPs.
Im suprised the XPS 12 got such a bad wrap though, such a gorgeous screen and can be had for just a bit more than the asus. Just because it doesnt last 10 hours, well most 4k screens in a small chassis wont. Think it was overly criticised. -

Judging a specific model by previous brand experiences is not really objective though - each model should stand on its own feet. As for the unibody, it's a far cry from Apple's designs - it flexes a LOT from what I've seen, definitely needs reinforcement.

Yep I agree of course, I just dont see the value in the dell FHD. And yet I dont see the practicality with scaling issues in other screens. Its stuck between a rock and a hard place. i think we are a couple years ahead of being ready for 4k computing for example. Not knocking the Dell, if you have the money and its your cup of tea then nobody can judge that decision, Id definitely consider a used one for the price of the Asus, but that isnt going to happen for a while yet.
Did dell change the XPS 9350 FHD screen mid production?
