I've been looking at several different configurations of the Dell Studio XPS trying to find the right one to pull the trigger on.

Comparing the config of Corei5 vs the Corei7 i noticed a slight difference in the displays.

    Corei5:

    Edge-to-Edge FHD Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP BLKG15F [320-8330][421-0188][421-1010]

    Corei7:

    Full HD Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP BKG1510 [320-8330][421-0188][421-1010]

Does anyone know if these are the same screen? The skus are the same, but the product code and the description are different.

I'm going crazy right now because I can't decide between the Corei5 or the Core i7. I do zero gaming, but a lot of heavy multitasking and spend a lot of time in Visual Studio. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Also wondering if the RBGLED is worth it or will I be happy with the WLED? I'm going from a standard LCD which I consider to be very dim, so if the WLED is a large improvement over that I am inclined to think I will be happy with that.

    Thanks for the help. :)

Both part numbers are the same (320-8330) so i think they are identical.
For heavy multitasking, the i7 quad core would be your best bet.
And in terms of the wled display being bright enough, yes it is very bright, I only ever have it up to a maximum of half brightness

I really don't see a difference between the screens.. they are both wled and 1080p... they both show " [320-8330][421-0188][421-1010]" so I assume they are the same thing.

As for the processor, I have the i7-620M and run visual studio 2008 without any problems...

Which processors specifically are you looking at?

    Thanks for your responses.

The two processors I am looking at are the Corei5-520M or the Corei7-720qm.

At first I was leaning toward the i7-720qm, I like the quad core processor, but then I noticed that the you can get the RGBLED screen with the Corei5 configuration.

All the reviews I have read seem to say how great the RGBLED screen is. I am trying to figure out if that is worth it with the Corei5. The Corei7 with the WLED screen would be cheaper.

I currently own an M1530, overall I am very happy with it, but I did get one of the poor screens that they were initially shipping with. It is very dim and I have always disliked it. If the WLED is a big improvement over this, then I think that will fit my needs.

    I appreciate the advice.

The RGBLED is definitely a great screen, but it comes down to personal preference and I didn't like how saturated everything looked, not to mention the slightly increased backlight bleeding when viewing dark screens compared to the WLED. The WLED screen is still a really good screen. If you get the chance, see if you can see both of them in person before you order.

Thanks for all your help. I ended up ordering on Tuesday. The specs are in my signature. I went with the WLED screen, I figure it will be a nice upgrade regardless. As nice as it sound I couldn't justify the extra money for the RGBLED. I figured I would rather have the blu-ray drive. I also went with the core i7. I think for how I use it this will suit me nicely. Now the waiting. Dell stated an estimated delivery of 4/16/2010.

However, I logged in this morning and the estimated delivery was updated to 3/23/2010. I hope that is the case.

Now what to do with my M1530. Don't suppose anyone is in the market for one?

I think its in the Edge to Edge description. The RGBLED being edge to edge means when the lap is open the led fills all the space, leaving a very slim to nothing type of border around the edges.

I have the 1558 with a 15,6" HD WLED and there is a border ~1cm all around the screen.
