Why is the Inspiron 9400 (E1705) so much cheaper than the XPS M1710. For the same base model it is about $600 more for the XPS. I was thinking that maybe the components in the XPS are of better quality. Like generic versus known name RAM, or quality optical drive versus a knockoff brand.
Anyone know?

No, just pretty lights, 7900 GTX 512MB option, different paint job and better customer service. That's about it!

screen is brighter on the xps, actually

I would stress better customer service as a key highlight.
