Is it worth it to pay the extra $250 for the RGBLED? Or is the WLED LCD just fine for Blu-ray viewing?
Thanks!
-
-
AFAIK you'd just be paying for another 0.4". From what I've heard, the RGBLED has less accurate colors (though it still looks amazing) and consumes more power.
-
RGBLED is the only reason to buy this computer ! It is a must have option
-
I am not sure about Seporaths statements, but even if it does consume more, there must be a VERY small difference. Colors should be ALOT more accurate. LED screens usually have more washed out colors.
Get the RGB LED, everyone who has it raves about it. -
I've heard some people have had problems with the 16" RGBLED screen, with there being marks that show up on the sides where the screen comes down....anyone else have this problem?
-
Yeah, my vote goes to the RGBLED option
Although, I still want to see the 1600 x 900 screen.... -
From what I've heard the RGBLED favors red/yellow hues and is more difficult to calibrate to more reasonable settings.
This can be seen here. -
I would re check that before believing that statement.
Check out Anandtech's article on RGBLED. Anand stated that it was probably the best laptop LCD that he's seen. RGB LED is different than LED. I believe RGB is able to display various colors vs. LED is just white light backlit. I could be wrong though. -
If you are a photo professional and need extremely accurate colors then yeah, the scrren might be unacceptable for you.
If you just love a beautiful LCD with vibrant and rich colors then this screen is for you....
Here is a pretty good review to start anyone off. You can google just as easily as I did
-
umm im thought RGB consumes LESS power. thats one of its selling features.
-
I didn't say it wasn't a magnificent screen. What I said was regarding color accuracy. That said, check my post right above yours.
EDIT: Another example thread here. -
I ordered a WLED today just because I got a great deal on the overall system (offer was only valid with the WLED). I don't doubt that the RGBLED is an outstanding screen, however, I cannot see any reason why the WLED is not going to be an excellent screen.
-
rgb led vs wled is like compared color tv to black & white tv, although the rgb led screen on studio 16 is only grade C quality as oppose to grade A screen quality on studio 17.
coupled with a tv tuner, you probably wouldnt want or need a flat panel tv in your living room. -
So, it sounds like it's worth it to get the RGBLED screen....but I keep on hearing about these marks that show up on the sides, because it's edge-to-edge....any truth to these rumor's?
-
There have been isolated problems with imperfections in the screens, but it's not a systemic issue. Just like a car off the assembly line, one can be perfect and the next a lemon for no explainable reason. If there is an issue you have 21 days to request a replacement.
-
Has anyone hear seen the WLED LCD (1920x1080) screen next to the RGBLED screen? I just want to be able to get a good picture out of my blu-rays...not looking to do professional work or anything...
-
i have the old WLED 720p screen and its fantastic. Good brightness, color, an most of all viewing angles. I would have liked this screen maybe with 900pixels but im very satisfied, almost as good as my macbook pro screen!
-
Guys, I am getting a good offer of Dell Studio with WLED 1080p. It is not available with RGBLED 1080p. I want to watch Blu Ray HD movies only.
Should I reject the offer only because it doesn't offer RGBLED? -
Let me state this clearly and only once: the RGB Screen is "Amazing". Colors just POP. Before I received it I was like "what's with all the hype?" But then I checked out that sample windows video (the running horses) and was very impressed! It's worth it IMO, although I haven't really seen the Wled in person for a full comparison (but the RGB is quality)...
-
Are you sure you have blue-ray? I heard there was a shortage.
-
Well, I have two options, either I can buy it from US or from India. In US, Blu ray is not available. In India, they do not offer RGBLED.
So, I have to make a compromise :confused -

Some people experience screen flickers issue with the RGBLED and you might firs discuss this with Dell reps prior to purchasing it
Nikolay -
I just ordered an RGBLED screen, so I'm a little curious about this. I guess I'll just hope not to have the issue of flickering on top of all the other issues I've been seeing associated with this laptop.
-
On the RGBLED the colors seems to "pop" out more. The only thing about it for me is that the reds are way more pronounced than any other color, every movie I watch makes the actors faces seem sunburned. I had to tone down the hue on the avivo to 78 but you can still see the red in the faces. I'll probably have to drop it a little more.
-
I have never seen an RGBLED screen, but I have the WLED screen and it looks pretty darn good to me.
-
I have the RGBLED and I am pretty satisfied with it. I don't have any mark on the corner, no dead pixel. However, flickering happens when brightness is set to low (it's like a rapid hue change and is only visible in white areas of the screen).
-
From what I understand the RGB consumes more power. On the RGB colours looks more vibrant and for want of a better word 'true' 1080p WLED will probably be fine however if you want to make you laptop that much better and as future proof as possible go for the RGB I for the 900p screen and wish I had got the RGB.
Disavantages of the RGB:
Hurts your eyes after a whille.
Risk of having issues, as some people have posted on thsi forum. -
RGBLED screen consumes more power than WLED at maximum brightness.
But... does RGBLED screen consume more, same or less power than WLED at same / equal brightness ? -
You could get one on ebay for like $30
-
ive only got the 900p WLED but i think its quite nice
the 1080P WLED is what i wish i got but i guess that's fine
i've heard alot of teaking needed with the RBG as well as flickering problems
so i'm not sure, your taking a change with the RGBled but i'm sure its worth it -
I know someone who has the RGB screen, and I thought something was wrong w/ my eyes lookin' at it. It probably needs calibration, but still...one more thing to worry about. I use the WLED and the whites and colors are superb.
-
Correction: RGBLED is available in India too, but with different name "16.0"UltraSharp Edge to Edge Full High Definition (1080p) Display with TrueLife".
Now I have to decide whether to go for it or not
-
Just go for it. Hopefully you won't have order delays with the rgbled screen that we are having here in the USA.
-
Downloading and installing one of the profiles here takes less than a minute.
Hardly something to "worry" about. -
So far as I can tell, RGBLED is no longer available in the US? Or am I missing something?

Just on the Quad Core (1645), the new 2010 i5 / i 7 Dual Core models (1647) have the RGBLED as an option.
See: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=laptop-studio-xps-16
It's a $250 upgrade/option from that base
Dell did 'pull' the i7 Dual Core option from new Models -
You know, Dell really needs to get it's #$%^ together, this is just silly. Chatting with a sales rep, she claimed you could *never* order the RGBLED screen with a Core i7. I asked her, "So what you're saying is, the top of the line machine, can't have the top of the line screen?" "That's Correct." You actually can't get any Core i7 systems with an RGBLED right now for whoever only knows why. I've tried to order a system from Dell twice now only to have complications that have resulted in random order cancellation without warning or notification, and now I can't re-order the same system I ordered a month and a half ago because they claim it doesn't exist. Huh.
-
I am confused-- was there any explanation as to why they pulled the RGBLED from the quad core? I was... interested in both
... Along with waiting for the return of blu ray
-
Sure they offer it on the 1647 but it doesn't mean that it's easy to come by. Most people who have ordered the RGBLED screens with the 1647 are experiencing heavy production delays.
-
Maybe to cut down on the throttling ... lmao
Differences between RGBLED and WLED LCD (1920x1080)?
