I discovered a way to test if your monitor is grainy, even if you don't have another monitor to compare side by side. Not sure if anyone else has ever suggested this. My monitor is the 1920 x 1200 resolution Samsung SEC3255.

Make the background white and stand up over the monitor and look at a downward angle. The grainyness will probably disappear and all you'll see are millions of tiny WHITE almost imperceptible rectangular grids. It should look very smooth.

Gradually sit down, keeping your eyes on the screen while you lower your viewing angle. You should see the grainy cloudiness (also described as granular sheen) reappear.

Hope this helps those who are wondering if their monitor is indeed grainy.

I also have the 1900x1200 sammy screen, but even if my screen is grainy it doesn't bother me. I love the added resolution.

Yeah the slight grainyness on my 1920 x 1200 doesn't bother me too much at all. However, people with monitors in other resolutions may or may not have worse grainyness.

    Well, what are the results?

Don't be afraid to admit your monitor is a little grainy. When I'm looking down at my monitor from above, it's great just like the 12" AUO monitor on my my beautiful little M1210 (bought 2 years ago) is from STRAIGHT ON.

Try the test. You don't even have to stand up. Just get real close to the monitor and look downward.

    Let's hear your results!

Yes mine does have some graininess... But not very much at all, definitely able to live with it.
