My M1530 XPS display screen is not turning off when lid is closed. Even when I set the power options for my laptop to go to sleep when lid closed it still doesn't and still the screen is turned on.
I also have this crazy cursor when I open the lid after closing it with the light display light on again. They said A08 was a fix for this it was then it came back. Is this a hardware issue or a bios issue.

It could be that the magnetic switch is broken.. Would probably need to be replaced..

I had this problem with a XPS1210 - I fixed it by switch to a different driver version. Try a few versions from laptopvideo2go.com

I think you may want to upgrade your A08 bios to the A09 bios.
Also are you using XP or Vista? It's possible that there is magnetic switch issue but the more probable cause is Windows not responding to the hardware switch when the lid is closed. After you've eliminated all hardware possibilities, upgrading the bios and trying a different driver, you'll have to re-install windows to fix the issue. -
I upgraded to A09 already it still does not turn off. Or even sleeps when lid is closed. The power options is set to sleep when lid is closed. I asked Dell about this and it seems they are beating around the bush with do this and do that. I can't blame the it's probably protocol before they raise my issue to higher level.
Any other thoughts on the fix?
On the driver switching I must say that I have a blu-ray optical drive. When i tried to OC before it only worked for the OC part but my blu-ray does not allow to play Blu-ray movies on that driver. That blu-ray only accepts drivers from dell. Unless anyone knows of a NVIDIA driver that has no conflict with blu-ray drives. I would try it.
About the magnetic switch, never heard that before. Is this standard on all laptops? Is so that may be the problem. I'll talk to dell about this but as I said they are delaying me maybe for a replacement as they thought it would come to. -

There is a small magnet in the lid, on lhe left side of the camera. The detector is underneath the palmrest. It is probably the part that needs to be replaced, although if i know dell, they'll make you go through 20 hoops and then some, and the replace the palmrest and the lid..
