My HDD is defective, so i send my laptop to Dell support.
I also told them that my screen have grainy issue, so they might check it and hopefully they will do something about that (but not big issue though)
My 1year basic warranty will expire this June 2009, do i need to extend it more for 1 or 2years because of what happen to my HDD? I'm thinking of keeping this laptop until 2012
how much will it cost me if i extend it to 1 or 2 more years?

They seem to throw random prices at me when I enquire - sometime really cheap, others too expensive.
My advise is to ring up and ask, but I would advise a warranty extension. I assume looking at your specs that you don't have the NVidia card? -
For the 1530, and if you plan on keeping it for awhile...it may be a good idea.
Don't forget, that for the Nvidia GPU..the warranty for that has been extended for a year!
Do you have that GPU, though?
Also, you may want to consider..at that time..seeing if you can *deal* with them on the extended warranty. If they want the sale for that bad enough, they will give you a good deal

also remember you have to consider EOL and technology too. Depending on the cost of the extended warranty, it may be better to just buy a new notebook that'll run faster/more efficient/stable. I'm sure the M1530 is reaching the EOL, part-wise will probably be around for another year or so.
I don't know how Dell's warranty support is, but my old HP ZD7000 had a bunch of issues (you guys think the 8600GT GPU is faulty, look up the 5700Go and how many burnouts were on that sucker), had the thing serviced 6 times within a year and a half (4 MB changes). I bought it at the end of the zd7000 release, like 2 weeks after i bought it they discontinued it and went with the ZD8000. Anyway, HP ran out of motherboards for the thing, and weren't getting anymore. I was still covered under my extended warranty, so they actually replaced the whole computer with a new ZD8000. -
If you are planning on keeping your laptop until 2012 and unless you don't want to purchase/fix any problems yourself -- you probably should think about extending your warranty. Almost everyone I know has had some problems with their laptops [Dell and Non-Dell Laptops] when they keep/use them for multiple years.
Plus, laptop parts can be very expensive to purchase and often can be more expensive than the warranty. For example, I just extended my Dell XPS M1210 laptop warranty for approximately $250 for two years. I just read a post ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=357486) about a guy who did not have a warranty for his M1210 and his motherboard died. The user had indicated that he was finding on ebay that to replace the motherboard would cost approximately $400.
However, as already mentioned, if you think that you might purchase a new computer sooner than later you might want to put the money towards a new machine.
I've read different prices on extension warranties offered by dell. I think it depends on the machine and the country you live in. I think the best way to find out is to call Dell and ask about the pricing on your model/service tag number. As mentioned above: call a couple of times and you might get quoted different rates. -

You said something about GPU warranty being extended one year? Is that for ALL customers? I bought mine last Feb 2008, am I eligible? I also extended my warranty for another year to 2010. -
If you have the 8th series GPU, it`s extended.

Btw you may also want to look at how you paid for your purchase, i know AMEX, Visa, and Mastercard have buyer protections to extend the warranty through them directly for double the warranty period up to 1 year, so you'll have an additional year of warranty through them (for select card plans). -
I believe this might help you answer your questions regarding the NVIDIA GPU extended warranty as it lists the terms of the extended limited warranty. It is what I used when I was helping a friend with her GPU issues on her XPS M1330. Initially, dell was giving her a hard time when she was trying to get her video card issued resolved. I found the link and comments very helpful and we were able to get Dell to fix the problem -- but it took several phone calls to Dell Customer Service to get it done but it got resolved.

you can extend your warranty at any time. it happens often people break their xps, call up and order the warranty extension in order to fix it.
