No. All laptops purchased from Best Buy have a 14 day return policy with a 15% restocking fee if opened.

    Not really.

Once you open it and return it, we have to send it back to Dell. Just because you don't want it doesn't mean we eat the shipping costs for your screwup.

In general, Dell is more generous with their return policy, especially if you buy from their small business department. But you have to box it up and bring it to the shipping place to return it. And you have to wait for it to get delivered and you can't play with one unless you go to the store and play with it.

I needed one in a hurry for a trip and bought it from Best Buy though I usually prefer to buy online. I had to bring it back and they have it for two weeks. I much prefer on-site service as I'm not out the machine for so long.

If you're in Canada, there is no re-stocking fee at Best Buy.

If you have one, shop at Sam's Club. Their return policy is 6 months on computers plus they have the cheapest prices. Unfortunately you'll only find one or two Dell configs at best, and there's a membership fee of $35 if you're not already a member, but trust me it's worth it. Sam's has never turned me down for a return, even beyond their own stated policy.

i sure hope u dont mean "we" as in Best Buy because ive dealt with returning laptops and having to pay fees there before and the reason they claim for the fees is that they cant send it back and have to sell it opened there. Either way i agree with the other ppl who feel their return policy is bs, especially when an associate tells you its different.

Well... if you return it saying "I dont like the color", they'll charge you 15%. If the product is defective, then that fee should be waived. By the way, I haven't shopped at BestBuy for more than 4 years :)

The return policy is very standard. Best Buy, Circuit City, Apple, Lenovo, Toshiba, Alienware and Dell all have a restocking fee. In fact, the only ones I could find that didn't charge one was HP and Sony. Apple does not allow returns on CTO units, and finally, Newegg doesn't allow returns period.

I noticed that they haven't updated the status on my warranty keyboard repair. I brought it in on 9/3 and the last status update is that they sent it out on 9/4. The expected return date was 9/15 which is long (compared to Apple and Dell service). So I called the local store which turned into phone calls to Geek Squad City, their corporate office and customer service. They could tell me nothing about the status but the did escalate the repair and shipping. The person at the store said that they had to check for spills and to see if there was other damage, etc. I informed her that it was a known Dell problem and that it only required a keyboard swap. BTW, this is the sticky space bar problem.

You could have purchased a replacement keyboard off e-bay for around $20 including shipping and swapped the keyboard easily yourself.

It depends. A lot of times we have to send it back to the manufacturer as a "DEVO" item. Other times, we have to sell it as "Open Box", but that's usually not the case in my opinion.

If the product is defective, yes, the fee is waived.

The best, most liberal return policy on computers I've run into is Office Depot. No questions asked, no restocking fees, just a credit back.

I hate doing that, though, because it costs the vendor money and in the end we all pay.

I find that companies or product lines that focus on the business segment take better care of their customers because they want repeat business. Dell has certainly earned my repeat business. Best Buy lost it with my first purchase. I'm fine with Apple service as it is fast and they do a good job but I'm really annoyed about the nVidia issue but I've reserved most of my anger for nVidia. Apple is fine if they come out with something that doesn't use nVidia. I have HP hardware and haven't had to use their customer service for warranty work but my opinion is that their consumer hardware has declined in quality due to their relentless cost-cutting. I guess that you get what you pay for. I don't mind spending more for better service but I feel that the need for service should be exceedingly rare.

Well my Gateway P-7811FX is defective as the monitor isn't working. The GPU seems to be the problem. I would like it fixed or exchanged. Would I have to pay anything? I purchased it last month...more than 14 days are gone but less than 30 days have gone.

It should have at least a one-year warranty so they should fix it for free. Just bring it in.

The status on my repair order was updated a few hours after I requested an escalation. It is fixed and awaiting inspection. They said that I should expect it around the 15th but I doubt that they can get it here that quickly.
