Warning, do not install the optional update from Windows update called 'IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2)' on your Dell laptop.

If you do, your built in touch pad will no longer function.

This happened to me on my XPS M1530. To fix it, in Vista, I simply plugged in a USB mouse, opened up device manager, found the IdeaCom item under Human Interface Devices. Right click on it and select 'Uninstall' and also check the box to remove the driver.

To completely uninstall in XP, you may have to delete one of the INF files from C:\Windows\inf. It should be the last one named oemXX.inf.

I installed it last night and shutdown after the install. After a quick search I found this to remove it.

    Thanks...

    Hi guys!!
I removed the Ideancom together with the driver....
I restarted my laptop (XPS1330) twice but the touch pad doesn't respond.....in Devise manager there is a yellow question mark on the dell touch pad driver.....

I won't install that at all

My touchpad is fine on my 1530 the way it is..if I need any adjustment, I just go into the Dell Touchpad itself and correct what I need.

For complete removal of any *extras* left, you may want to try out RevoUninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

That will remove it all completely ;) :D

    Cin ;) :)

I try to use the system restore but it doesn't reload the system before the date that IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2) was installed....

I had system restore off and no mouse with me at the time! grrr! i had to rip a mouse from another machine to remove it from device manager. This was on wednesday when it happened for me. Why microsoft would throw that in the updates is beyond me.

Un-Install the IdeaCom driver in Device Manager, and Re-install the Dell Touch Pad Driver, but run the setup.exe program by right clicking on it and running it under "Run as Administrator"

anything in windows should be accessable with just the keyboard though. Should not need to scrounge a mouse
