Does anyone know if the i7 versions of the Studio 15 and the XPS 16 use the same basic motherboard?

    What about the Studio 17?

I appreciate that the GPU's are different but is the basic motherboard the same?

I can only assume that there ARE differences and it would vary based on the size of the laptop, the standard configuration of hardware in each, such as the case with the Studio 17 with it's optional 2nd drive bay. Also consider technology as well such as processor, FSB, memory, etc. I am still suprised by the fact that my SXPS 16 has such a small mobo but then again, technology keeps getting smaller and faster.

i am sure you could do some hunting online and find out the tech specs for each. In fact, there is a site online that specializes in teardowns of electronics with step by step pictures). maybe when i get the time, I'll look into it as well since you piqued my interest.

To my understandment studio XPS 16 got a better graphic card and the build quality is better. Also, it doesn't have a RGBLED screen.

I ask as I was wondering if it should perform the same as the Studio 15 with just the graphics being a bit better.

Usually big companies try and share parts as much as possible to keep costs down so I wondered if it was the same motherboard.

I also asked out of idle curiosity :D

My SXPS 1640 has the ATI 4670 1gb and yes, the build quality is better, only because Dell uses more metal than plastic which imo, makes for a stronger laptop. As for the screen, I got mine with an RGB WLED 1080p screen, which was an option and not standard....bottom line, most everything is customizable as Dell shows when you order a machine.

even if its a different mobo, if its the same CPU it will have the same chipset and bottom line will perform identical if not so similar that you couldn't tell the difference.

its in your favor that the i7 is a new chip, as there havn't been a billion different revisions that you'd have to keep track of. I think right now everything is the same.
