Are you supposed to get your version of Windows on a disc or it's on a partition? My system didn't come with a Windows 7 Home Premium Disc... Is that how it is supposed to be?

depends on who's definition of supposed to you are going by..... but no, they are not sending them with all machines... You gotta go make a request now.

    Good Luck.

PS There was a thread in the General Dell forum... HERE: http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...isks-resource-cds-consumer-win-7-systems.html

When completing that form, they are requiring your Service Tag number, which you don't have yet. What, you could do is just hop on Chat ~ say your order is in production (give them your order number), and ask if they could please send you the backup discs so that you have them when your system arrives. So, you have them both at the same time.

    It wouldn't hurt to try. : )

There would have been an option to purchase the media when you ordered.

You could call into customer care and ask them to send the media. They might not give them to you, but you should be able to purchase it.

My laptop come with the disk, but I got it in December 2009.

It turned out to be extremely useful, as I had to reinstall Windows 7 last weekend.

I just received my xps 1645 a couple of days ago. The day before I got it I called Dell customer service and after a while of talking they agreed to send me a Windows 7 recovery disc and it came the next day afer I got the computer.

What did you have to say to get them to send you it? Mine arrives Wednesday, and I'd like to be able to have a windows 7 disc when I receive it.

Just call and ask for the win 7 disc and application recovery disc. They will give them to you with zero issues.
