Recently while conteplating between XPS M1530 and M1330, I came across issue abou the heat they produce. My current choices are: M1330 T5250 + LED screen+ X3100 integrated graphics, 120 gb hdd, 4gb memory vs. M1530 T7500+ CCFL regular screen + Geforce 8600 256mb GT, 120 gb hdd, 4gb memory. M1530 is hotter. This issue is quite generic and applicaple to across the board to any notebook PCs. I have XEON 5110 dual processor workstation, XPS 410 Desktop and now I wanted to use something relatively powerful (to avoid obsolesence) but cool to use on my top of my lap. Current generation laptops often called Notebooks as they are not laptop worthy anymore as they produce more heat and burn your lap. Individual tolerance for heat may vary. But to get a general sense of the issue and make right choice, can you please share your experience with Notebooks used as laptops? Particuarly, any expeience with M1330 and M1530 will be of great help. And any recommendation for the low heat but good performance within US$1000
Thanks,

the m1530 and m1330 with the specs you mentioned are well over $1000us, they are not so hot that its going to burn your lap...but if you are running some intense games for a long period of time it will get hot...any laptop would get really hot this way...so my suggestion is getting a chill matt? Hope that helps.

With high performance laptops, the trade-off is heat usually. A laptop with a fast processor and integrated graphic card will probably not run as hot as one with a fast processor and dedicated card. Another thing that will make a difference is how hard your working the hardware. Games and videos will make it toasty real quick.
If you have to keep it on your lap, make sure none of your vents are blocked. That will heat things up faster and possibly damage the unit. The fan vents can be either on the bottom or back of the notebook and sometimes both places depending on the manufacturer. As Acorn suggested, also try a chill mat if you're going to be using it for a prolonged period. Ther are manufacturers that make relatively small ones that plug into your USB port.
Good Luck. -
I am non gamer. I mostly use it for typical browsing, ms office, remote desktop and occassional audio/video and some picture viewing and editing. As for as the price, you won't believe!!!
My M1530 with above config is way below US$1000 and so is the M1330! Both have couple of hundred dollars Giftcards though!
Do you have hottest Notebooks: Laptop+Heat = Notebook? Which is hotter M1530 or M1330?
