I kind of like the plain-ness of the new XPS 15, but one thing that is pretty disgusting looking is the butt. It's striking in a bad sort of way. It's a big turnoff like how Thinkpads have the screen off-center to the right. It's just WRONG!

I don't care about the 'butt'... the main aesthetic fails seem to be

    - The blood-red lettering on some of the function keys... what the?

    - Left-of-centre touchpad (why do so many machines do this? Do Apple have a patent on nicely-centred touchpads?)

    - Very rounded corners. Makes it look more bulky?

    - Odd mix of light/dark greys. Still undecided if this is ugly or OK...

    - Rubber stoppers around the screen. Yeah, they've got an important job to do, but the shape/positioning isn't very neat

However, the specs and pricing may make up for all that...

I was reading your post but all I could concentrate on was your use of "de" instead of "the." Please don't do that.

    The palmrest.

And what I think of the new Xps 15 is it's ugly, the screen is just as bad as the old Xps 1530, the trackpad is an improvement as it's larger, I love USB 3.0, micro display port goes about 1920x1080p so ut's better then hdmi for video. And external sata is great!

Really no need for expressport now, with good wifi built in, external sata ect.

The only real fail is the screen resolution.

The reason why it's ugly as it reminds me of the cheap $500 Acer laptops at walmart.

Honestly, I think these new XPS dells are the nicest dells they've had yet. I really wasn't a big fan of the leather on the sxps.

Try typing on laptops with nicely-centered touchpads... Your right hand is bound to touch it without a lot of practice. A good positioned touchpad should be equally spaced between your hands when you are typing... Which is why it's located off-center.

Actually I'm happy with it's cheap looks... I don't know how they'll look in real life but hopefully my dad won't suspect a thing when I tell him that I bought it for $500. (With the remainder being the secret sum of money I've been saving up by cutting my food expense :p)

This. The touch pad is traditionally between the F and J keys.

loved the design of my m1530. loved the design of my sxps 16. HATE the new xps design, so i bought an m15x. dell's designs have crashed and burned, nothing is uglier than that fugly bump on the back of their machines.

I wasn't a fan of the leather either, but the leather is/was optional on the SXPS 16, so I got it without.

Doh, leather is default on the SXPS here. A small reason why I didn't get it.

I like the old look better. Leather accents give you somewhere to grip without worrying about the fingerprints. And I did like the chrome looking accents. On the negative, I dont like how everything plugs into the side (and I know this because of the barrel type hinges). And I dont like how this hinge results in the screen blocking the vents. On the other hand, these hinges are a hell of a lot better than the ones on the Inspiron 6000 series I imagine.

In regards to the new XPS. It just doesn't look like a performance system. The only way you could tell is by the 'little' XPS words in the bottom left hand corner. I also don't like the 'butt' effect of the lid/hinge system but at least this gives it a chance to dissipate some heat.

Shame they couldn't make it look cool ... I am glad they steered away from a piano black finish but I voted No at the end of the day. The question was how it 'looked'. And it looks a bit ordinary. Shame really. I feel Dell listened a little but have yet to find the right balance.

Voted yes but would have voted "unsure" if given the option. The aluminium palmrest is sleek, keyboard looks great. The glossy screen contour looks a bit cheap imo, even if on a practical basis I'd rather have this than a poorly made edge-to-edge. I don't really dig the 2 color case, would rather get an all-black case if given the choice (I guess Dell will implement this in the future).
