I did a copper mod 3 months ago on my xps1340, now the motherboard has video issues, so they are sending the tech over, appointment is for tomorrow for my motherboard to be changed. Do you think he will care that I took off the stock thermal pads and applied thermal paste and copper shim, or do you think he wont since he isnt a DELL GUY, just works for a company that dell is paying to come and fix stuff.

I know it states by dell that if I mess around with motheboard it will void my warranty, but do you think the technician is aware of that, or even likely to care?

Give your opinion if you dont mind, Thanx.

if you did a nice looking job i wouldn't worry about it.

I've done on-site support for various things and seen both very well done and professional things where I KNOW that the modification didn't cause the issue, and I've seen things so awful that I would worry about my job security by ignoring it.

Hey, a tech came round to replace the mobo in my 1640 recently and I got chatting to him about how Dell hires him, how much he earns etc.

To be honest, I seriously doubt he will care! Dell pays these self-employed engineers to go out and replace the motherboard, all they want to do is just that; as long as it works and there's no complaints then they're happy.

    Hope it goes well!

Thanx PlusPistol... I kinda hope and think the same, but you never know, when the tech called to schedule an appointment he sounded very unhappy and careless about his job on the phone. He had the lazy voice and all the horrible qualities. This kinds makes me squared because the last tech that came over twice was very smart, friendly, nice attitude he even played with my cat that was bothering him the whole time lol.... Now Im gona get the guy who "hates his life/job" to fix my laptop.... Well Im gona post later today to let you know how it went

Either way those two techs both wanted to earn their pay, I doubt they will be enforcing the warranty aspect too much. After all they're bringing that new mobo out in their van and it will only take them half an hour to swap them out, not too much effort on their part from what I witnessed anyway!
    Hope it went well anyway.

    I wanna know too! lol
