I was at the Dell shop in Hong Kong the other day and had a close look at the XPS M1530, and frankly I was quite dissapointed by the loose/faulty hinge, as in part of the rotation is very loose, if you know what I mean.

What worries me is that Dell uses the same or similar hinge design on other models (Studio series, Inspiron 13), so just out of interest, who here already suffer from hinge issues with their XPS M1330/1530?

That was probably because of the horrible way the laptops on display counters are used, that hinge was loose because of 24/7 stress caused by thousands of people constantly opening and closing, on out-of-the-box ones, like mine ( ive had it for 4 months now) the hinge is very tight, and the screen barely moves when in use.

but it is possible that with constant use and time the hinge might come loose, but that happens with a lot of laptops, its just wearing out from usage.

    Hey there ~

I don't have any problems with the hinges on my 1530 (I received my 1530 in 1/08).. ;) The hinges are nice and tight, and the lid closes just like it did when I first received it... :)

But, I do know shortly after the 1530 came out fellow peep's started reporting issues with the hinges...I think maybe around 1/08.

I haven't heard anything as of late related to the hinge issue, though...

The 1530 is almost a year old...and the 1330 is older than that!! So, I personally would not expect any more ehancements on this years version of the 1530... because of all the new changes moving forward! :)

    Cin ;) :)

Koer hit on the correct point, these notebooks are abused 10+ hours a day by customers who don't care. It's going to get worn out a lot more quickly than by normal consumer use.

To add to the others who have replied, the hinge design is actually quite good, since it can be easily re-tightened. It's mounted on 2 bolts on either side of the screen, and the nuts can be tightened as required. I have had my 1330 for over a year now, and the hinge is still trouble free.. (Can't say the same for the rest of the parts, though. . :( )

I've had mine for a month or so, and my hinges feel A OK.

Granted, I haven't been using it too much, but it feels sturdy. As the others have said, in a public place like that, it's bound to get loose or maybe even break since the people don't care.

Well you see, my 6-year-old Fujitsu C2010 still has a good hinge. It's a shame that Fujitsu has gone downhill in recent years though.

I still was disappointed when I saw the m1530 in person. I thought it would look a LOT nicer. I just hope that the next iteration they do has at least 2/3 the style of the sony Z. I'll be happy with it then.

I am hoping that sesshomaru can help me with this one. My M1330 hinge is too loose. How do you access the nuts to tighten it up? I know where they are, but not how to get at them. Any help on this is appreciated!
