    As per the thread title does the XPS 1645 or do other XPS 16's take a standard 2.5" sata hdd?

    Yes it does. And it is easy to replace if you so wish.

    Cool. I've ordered one with a 128gb ssd but it may be a bit small for my needs but the upgrade price was right compared to what they seem to fetch on ebay so I thought I'd try it and if it's no good then swap to a normal 500gb sata drive and sell the ssd.
