I bought the wife an XPS15 and it came with the basic screen (Refurb, didnt get to pick). It looks horrible. Has horrible contrast and atrocious viewing angles. It's also very dim. It is probably the worst TN panel I have ever seen. The screen in our netbook is far better. Now I've ordered her the B156HW01 V.4 but am wondering if dell cheaped out and tried to save money on a few copper traces in the ribbon cable? So I need to order the same cable the 501x needs? if so do I have to call and chat with em or is there somewhere to buy them online?

You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat
    10:13:20 PM System System
    10:13:25 PM Agent
Thank you for contacting Dell XPS Hardware Premium Support. My name is How may I help you today?
10:13:41 PM Customer I have a question and would like to order a part
10:13:59 PM Customer in the l502x the LCD ribbon cable was different between the 720p and 1080p model
10:14:11 PM Customer errr I mean the 501x
10:14:20 PM Customer I would like to know if it is also different on the l502x
10:14:29 PM Customer and if so I would like to purchase the 1080p cable
    10:14:45 PM Agent
10:14:55 PM Agent Let me see what best I can do for you.
    10:14:55 PM Customer hello
    10:14:59 PM Customer thank you
10:15:30 PM Agent As per the records this is an XPS L502X system which was shipped with Windows 7 Home premium installed. Am I correct?
    10:15:56 PM Customer correct
10:16:55 PM Agent Please give me 2-3 minutes to pull up your system's information. In the meantime, may I have the alternate contact number and the best time to reach you in case of a follow up?
    10:17:19 PM Customer xxxxxxxxxx
    10:17:23 PM Customer cst
10:21:00 PM Agent Thank you for staying online. I appreciate your patience.
10:23:15 PM Agent , the cables are different for both the systems and they may not be interchanged between these systems as they may not be compatible.
10:23:40 PM Agent The L502X is a slightly remodeled version of L501X.
10:23:47 PM Customer may I order a 1080p cable for the l502x, if its 720p and 1080p cables are different
10:25:15 PM Agent Dowl, the system will come with the compatible cable as per your system model. May I know why you would like to change it?
10:25:35 PM Agent The resolution would depend on the LCD and not on the cable.
10:26:40 PM Customer the 720p panel looks pretty horrible, I bought the matte version of the 1080p panel that is offered as an upgrade option, but it will not function without the cable with the extra traces in it
    10:27:13 PM Customer a AUO B156HW01 v4
10:28:22 PM Customer the service manual that describes the same change for the l501x requests a different cable so I figured it would be the same deal for the l502x
10:30:55 PM Agent Yes, however, if you change the internal cable it may not function properly. Since you have purchased the 720P panel it will only be able to display that on your system. Changing the cable would not change the resolution.
10:31:38 PM Customer it will after I remove the LCD panel and replace it with the other 1080p screen I have
10:32:26 PM Customer I replace laptop LCD panels pretty frequently and I have the technician manuals for the process on this model
10:34:15 PM Agent Alright. However, I would like to inform you that since the system is still under warranty incase there is a replacement required for the LCD anytime in the future they will only ship out the original panel the system came with.
    10:34:56 PM Customer sounds fair
10:38:05 PM Agent Is there anything else I may assist you with, Dowl?
10:38:28 PM Customer do I need to purchase the 1080p cable?
10:39:03 PM Customer or rather, shall I
10:40:55 PM Agent If you have an 1080p LCD panel then it would work fine but I would be unable to recommend it as the system is still under warranty.
10:41:41 PM Customer I do have the panel and wish to buy the cable, I understand the warranty will not cover the replacement screen I purchased myself
10:42:00 PM Customer nor the installation procedure
10:43:25 PM Agent Alright. You can go ahead and purchase the cable from our part sales department.
10:44:19 PM Customer they said the item was not listed and referred me to you
10:46:00 PM Agent we would be unable to sell that part as its not available in our listing as well. It is a part that can only be sold by the part sales department.
10:46:42 PM Customer ok, can you tell me the part number?
10:49:55 PM Agent The cable is not available as a separate part. It comes as a part of the LCD assembly.

Here is what this screen looks like :( No flash!!!
I was contacting dell both to buy the cable and find out if its different between the 501 and 502. I doubt it is but who knows maybe they shifted something internal.

Just wondering if anyone has found out how to get a HD ribbon yet? :)

    Thanks,

edit: guess it's the same as for the L501x (0V73D3)? Anyone know the cheapest place to get it?
