Does the Studio XPS 13 have the annoying CPU whine? I can't stand my M1330 anymore, it is giving me headaches! The whine is so loud! It has a T7250 processor.

I haven't seen a laptop in at least 5 years that didn't have a CPU whine. I wouldn't expect this system to be much different. Sure some systems will be slightly quiter than others but unless they have changed the materials that the Capicitors are made of I'm betting this system will have some whine.

Fine. Does it have a bearable amount of CPU whine unlike my M1330? I have an E1505 with C2D and a sony vaio CR-123E with a C2D and while they both have cpu whine, they dont make me want to rip my hair out! My M1330 is audible from even 6 or so feet away! It's horrible. The people at Dell just don't get what I'm talking about.

Its hard to say, the CPU whine varies from system to system. I have an M1330 that is nearly dead quite. We won't know until more systems are in peoples hands but the one we have at work seemed to be pretty quite in the short time I played with it.

Its even worse: CPU whine can also increase as the system gets older. My old d610 (its not even a C2D system) was pretty quiet when it was new, now its quite audible.

It even depends where you are...My 1520 is quiet when I use it in my home in Germany, but whines when I'm in my other house in Hungary.

Is it actually the CPU that whines or something on the motherboard?

I suggest, you should use noise canceling headphones :D :D :D

both... the first revision motherboards for the XPS M1330 had the harddrive controller (Intel ICH8M) whine like a stuck pig. That problem seems to have been addressed in the later revisions though. The problem was probably caused by low quality capacitors.

the cpu-whine is still present though, as that is not something Dell can fix, as it would require a cpu replacement from Intel

edit: users are also complaining of whine noises coming from the battery when charging over ~80% and of a small summing noise from the LCD display when brightness < 100%
