It does not, at the moment. Aparently the Studio 17 did not have the option for 6 months after it launched as well.

And considering that the XPS 15 is using a B+RG variant (just like the Studio 17 did), I'm going to go ahead and take a wild guess that Dell has a supply shortage of 17 inch B+RG displays and that this display will eventually end up in the XPS 17.//

That's kind of disappointing at launch. 1600x900 is good for a 15.6" (most 15.6ers still have 1366x768, which is an insult), but you really need 1080p for a 17.3" Since they stopped selling the regular Studio 17 (which had the 1080p) in favor of the new XPS, it's kind of strange that Dell wouldn't have enough displays for its replacement. I'd think that they'd just start moving the panels from one assembly line to the other.

Lets hope we'll see a new, upgraded, LCD rather than the old Studio 17 panel. Might be wishful thinking, though

I highly doubt they'll develop another 17.3" B+RG panel when they already have a perfectly good one available. Besides, the Studio 17 panel was supposedly quite good. I'd rather take that than gamble with a new panel, as laptop display quality has been going down lately, not up.

It's very disappointing imho. I would buy the xps 17 in a heartbeat if it had the 1920x1080 resolution, but now I'm considering the Sony F13 or an apple 17 in macbook. I don't understand why Dell didn't put this option in the first place. Please Dell, put the 1920x1080 option ASAP!!!

I was quite sure that yesterday I was able to configure an xps 15 on the dell canada site with the 1600x900 B+RG screen - but not there is no upgrade available from the 720p screen. Am I losing my mind, or has dell canada already pulled the 900p screen for the 15?

Dell is building me a replacement laptop XPS 17 and have assured me that it will have a 1080P screen. I spoke with 3 different customer service reps over the past few days regarding my order status which hasn't begun production and all 3 confirm my order with a 1080p screen.. they said they will email me the specs of my new machine in 3-5 days ( ?) why so long? anyways i will post once i get them...maybe the 1080p screen will be listed clearly on the spec sheet.

looks like they definately will offer a 1080p option just maybe not at the moment and are only configuring that option for sxps 16 owners who are getting replacement and had 1080p screen on their previous machine.

Interesting... a Dell rep tried to tell me that the screen could display 1920x1080 p resolution if you changed a setting in the graphics card options. It doesn't sound right to me, because you would think they would be advertising 1080p if the screen was capable of it. Also, I know you can go to a lower resolution on screens via Windows, but manufacturers always advertise the highest resolution a screen is capable of.
