My m1530 suffers from the shocking issue. It doesn't shock me, it just makes a tingling sensation in my palms and fingers when they move around the aluminum palm rest.
Also, there is a slight buzz in my headphones when I am not touching the aluminum. When I touch it, the headphone buzz goes away. When I am on battery, none of these issues are present.
I contacted Dell XPS support and they are shipping me a 3 prong power supply that should fix the problem.
How many other owners have this problem?

Have you tried singing him/her a song before going to S3? Maybe a little pat on the keyboard...feed him/her a better DVD. It might work...
sko105, if you have read about it then it might be true, if not relax, it just might be nothing.
Are you sure you don't have this by the way? -
Another reason, why I advocate never to use notebooks on AC Power! Do you use your mobile phone with AC Power cord attached? No. You connect it to the AC Power source only to charge the battery. Same is the case with notebooks.
If you are so keen on connecting your computer to AC Power source, what you need is called a desktop computer. -
That doesn't make any kind of sense. They are made to work on AC power. Maybe he doesn't want to keep his desktop on his lap. Have you though about this?

My grainy screen wasn't really that bad. I just called and tried to get an LG to see if the screen was better overall. It is. Nothing earth shattering, but the LG is noticably better in terms of grainyness, brightness and clarity.
The "shocking" sensation I have is pretty easy to notice. Put your index finger on the aluminum palm rest. Then slide it gently around, next to the touch pad, between the touch pad and the keyboard, etc. My finger literally vibrates. I pull out the power cord while I am sliding my finger around, the vibration stops. I put the power cord back in while I am sliding my finger around, it starts to vibrate again.
If you have it, you have it. There is no room for interpretation. -
I say: it would be nice to use a laptop on battery all the time, excepting when you were running out of juice. But... perhaps decreased performance and you're probably going to wear out your battery faster.
As for the shocking discovery... I don't have this notebook. I do have an Inspiron 1501, though, and I have gotten like shocks from it... kinda like on the bottom, though. -
i have it and am waiting for the three prong cords from Dell.
-
That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever read. I hope you were joking. If my battery is dead and I need to make a call, then yes, yes I do use my phone while it's plugged in.
I don't even think your cellphone/laptop analogy is a very good one.
EDIT:
I forgot to ask: How come you got a 2 pronged adapter? Did you request this somehow while ordering? -
I voted NO, but actually I do have the tingly sensation! I tested it by unplugging and plugging in my A/C adaptor. I actually kind of like it so I don't think I will request a new adapter lol
-
By the way, no shock here. -
-
It shocks me in its stunning beauty.
-
Shock is a strong word, more like constant tingle/vibration, only when the ac adapter is plugged in and only on the palm rest.
Besides that, the (my) m1530 is perfect, wonderful machine.
Buda -
I have it too , But i thinks this not due to any Defect in the Product or Power Adapter and main reason is that my room is poorly grounded
'Cuz when i use the same laptop in my house it doesn't have that tingling effect -
vinumsv,
do you have a two or three prong power supply? -
sko105 Bro , I have three prong power supply , Why ??
-
vinumsv, can u tell us what the part numbers are for the ac adapter cord ? and the part number for the cord that
attaches to wall?
many thanks. -
I have a three prong replacement on the way and I am curious if others with a three prong supply still have the problem.
-
The 3 prong ac adapters are the fix to the tingling problem. Its just the way it was designed. Dell engineers have said that the voltage is harmless to the user and the notebook itself.
If you recieve a shock rather then a tingle when using the 3 prong call Dell as this may be a saftey hazard. -
Guys, don't confuse a 3-prong from one country and a 2 prong from another country, current problem in NA (North America) is that the 2-prong plugs are not grounded, therefore in NA, we need the 3 prong plug..... which won't look the same as the plugs in Europe, India, etc, etc... and nor will they have the same codes and power adapters.
For example the power cord plug will look like this in North America

I have an M1530 (two weeks old) that shipped with a 2-prong power cord. I haven't noticed any buzzing, vibrating, shocking, or any other issues. I'm actually glad that it came with the 2-prong cord, since the majority of the outlets in my house are of the ungrounded variety.
-
Once my laptop battery gives me 4 days usage per charge like my cell phone does, I will gladly only use it when not plugged in!
And when batteries stop exploding -
Not to confuse everyone here, especially the w/the picture above--
there are two North American 3-prong adapters available.
I hv been sent two. The actual 3-prong side that plugs into black box is of two varieties (both of which is 90w)
one's design is like a 'triangle' the other design is three holes in a row. Key to avoiding confusion is know the
part numbers. -
Now I'm worried.
My house is a bit old and the power installation isn't great. In fact we don't even have the standard ground power takes. I won't be able to connect a 3-prong cable into the wall without an adapter which doesn't ground the cable at all.
Also some strange stuff goes on with my house power once in a while.
Will I receive a tremendous shock from using my notebook? What do you think. I don't want to be electrocuted and gain superpowers (just yet). -
Hi all,
I've just realised that my M1530 gives me the tingles when plugged in, probably as I use it on battery most of the time. The funny thing is, I have what I think is the 3 prong, as it is a British plug, with the ground. The Dell power brick also has a three prong plug.
Is this normal in the UK?
Does your m1530 Shock You?
