    All,

I dont game much at all. I had an xps m1730 it failed and it has been replaced by the Alienware m17x.
The machine is HUGE and HEAVY. I dont think I want to keep it and I have requested a downgrade to the studio xps 16 series laptop that is 16" and 6lbs instead of 17" and 12lbs

Am I making a bad decision?

    Thanks!

if you don't game, and you want something lighter than a 16xx series would be a nice downgrade but you might want to read up on the problems that it has first. Unfortunately if you're going to try to get a downgrade through Dell you'll have a hell of a time doing it, they almost never do it unless there's some major problem and they won't credit back any difference in price.

My friend had an Area-51 model and he wanted to downgrade to an M1530 after weeks of trying they finally gave in but he didn't get nearly anything close to the value to what he paid in return.

What specs do you have in your model?

The SXPS 16 isn't really a downgrade to a m1730 in my opinion especially if you don't game much. I love the 1640 I own. I have had some problems but I was able to get them resolved quickly.

I have a brand new, unopened SXPS sitting here and I would be more than happy to do some sort of deal with you for the M17x.

    Let me know.

Or you can have my 1710 and my mini 9 2for1 :D

On the serious note you'll probably get more if you sell it or make a swap.

If you don't play games, I'd consider the Studio XPS an upgrade.

    RGBLED
    ~5lbs lighter
    Much smaller PSU
    Much quieter when using
4670 gets it done for light to medium gaming

Studio XPS 16 i7 runs WoW and EQ II like a champ, so for me that gets it done.

If GPU taxing gaming is in any way, shape or form a priority, you might want to stick with the m17x
