All this info is probably on here somewhere, but I'm having a hard time figuring it all out. I just want to double check all this...

-Dell still ships all their systems with Vista discs, right? So after installing XP, you can just install Vista clean from the disc they give you?

-You don't have to use that Mediadirect software at all do you? (I mean the software that apparently can load without Windows-I don't want to use it, and hope the dedicated button will just do nothing.) I'd plan on installing a new drive, installing XP, then installing Vista and using Vista's boot loader (using maybe a 30GB/170GB partition for XP/Vista).

-The 1730 has XP drivers up, but obviously I'll need SATA drivers for it, I guess I'd have to try to mess with NLite again to slipstream XP SP-2 and the SATA drivers for this system. But...how do I actually GET the SATA drivers to slipstream in? I assume I use the chipset download from Dell, but...what do I do with it? How do I get Nlite to slipstream in whatever SATA driver it needs from that file?

Sorry, I feel kind of stupid asking this stuff!

Wait...it sounds like you just stick the drivers on a USB drive, and hitting "F6" during XP's setup, it'll read off of that drive? (I had thought it would only read from floppys...)

If I can do it from a USB thumb drive, I'm still left with the question...what do I do with that chipset file from Dell? I download that, and...do what to get the SATA drivers out of it and on to the thumb drive?
