Note that the i7-2620M is a dual-core i7.
The quad-core 2630QM is actually a better deal if you had the option to select it.
Otherwise, looks awesome. -
if you are trying to avoid the 9 cell battery (which looks ugly in my opinion) then I would either stick with the 2620m or downgrade to the 2520m. even an i5-2410m is fine tbh. so if you want to save $ it's a good idea
-
I would downgrade the ram also
-
"Downgrade" to 2630qm or upgrade to 2720qm.
Downgrade to 6GB and use $40-$60 to buy 8GB of ram. Sell the 6GB or stick it in your netbook. -
I've been looking at a very similar configuration:
1) 2nd generation Intel® Core i7-2720QM processor 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz
2) Backlit keyboard
3) 6GB RAM
4) 15.6 FHD B+RGLED TL (1920x1080)
5) NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M 2GB graphics with Optimus
6) 750GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
7) Tray Load Blu-ray® Triple Writer
8) JBL 2.1 Speakers with Waves Maxx Audio 3
9) Intel© Centrino© Advanced-N 6230 & Bluetooth 3.0
10) 90 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Best price I have been able to get is $1,399.99
Were you able to get a sweet deal? -
-
Yeah, the configs in my sig didn't cost more than ~$1500. That's with the 2 year warranty. definitely haggle with the Dell reps a little more.
-
-
try this coupon 4VB4CC3X7BJ4F6 it should take a bunch of money off the price
-
Thanks, but it's not valid for my order according to Dell.

If I already submitted my order, and its "in production" - should I call and cancel to upgrade? Is it really worth it to go dual to quad?
I just want the thing to be good for 4 years lol. Gaming is very little, but I do use Photoshop & video edit "a little" -
Chatted on the Dell Rep chat, I cant just change the item. Full cancel to re-order. Think I should?
I didnt realize this processor was a "dude" in the value dept. -
There's nothing really wrong with the 2620, it's just that the quad is cheaper and gives you more power if you need it. The 2620 is clocked higher so it will be better in single-threaded mode. It comes down to if you think you would prefer a quad. If you do a bunch of video encoding, the quad will definitely shorten encoding times. Gaming is benefiting more and more from more cores, the industry is catching up and is better implementing multi-threaded mode.
-
However, I normally do all these things with 10+ Windows / Firefox tabs open, lol.
I think I might change to the 2720qm, its only +30.
However, For some reason, it appears one promotion may have ended. I'm roughly $100 or so higher than before by only changing that spec. -
eh, before I only had 1yr warr, the build i just created only has 2yr option.
-
btw, that ad campaign made me avoid Dell like the plague. Its amazing I ever got over it.
