I am currently running BIOS revision A5 on my 1340 which I bought in April 09.

I am re-installing Windows 7 64 bit following freezing problems and am considering updating to the current BIOS revision A11.

Under the 'Important Information' for the A11 BIOS at the the Dell download site, it says:

'2.This BIOS is for B02 chipset'.

SIW (System Information for Windows) on my 1340 reports:

North Bridge NVIDIA nForce 730i Revision B1
South Bridge NVIDIA nForce 730i Revision B1

I presume this is the chipset revision.

So, is it safe to update to A11 BIOS? If not, what is the latest BIOS that can be used with B1 chipset, and where can I download it?

    Thanks for any help

    Geoff

I'd say it's safe as long as it's on the support site for your laptop. Just put in your service tag to be sure.

    Thanks for your replies.

th3van: Under my Service Tag number, for Win 7 64 bit, it recommends A11, but the Important Information refers to the B02 chipset. I would hope there was a recommendation for B1 chipset if A11 is supposed to be used with B02.

Nikolic: On my free version of SIW, The North and South Bridge appears on the Hardware Tab under motherboard.

    Thanks Geoff

I believe I got mine in April as well and have had no problems with A11 that didn't already exist with A07/A08 XD.

Thanks to all who responded. Your replies give me confidence to make the update. As I have not done a BIOS update before, can you tell me whether the current BIOS is saved as a backup in case there is a need to revert?

    Thanks

    Geoff

AFAIK, its not saved at all. But i think you can find earlier versions of the bioses on the supportpage, under bios/previous versions.
