    Dear friends,

I am new to forums and need your help in deciding a configuration. I am planning to buy a Dell XPS 15 laptop which has been newly released here in India this September. I would definitely like to go with Core i7 processor but am worried about heating and battery life. If there are problems and you experts already are aware of it kindly reply to me as soon as possible. i will change it to Core i5 which is the next best option.

    My dream configuration is:

    Intel® Core™ i7-740QM Processor (1.73GHz, 4Core/8Threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 6M cache)

    4GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2G) (operates at 1066MHZ for Core i5 processors)

    500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

    6 Cell Primary Battery

    2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 435M graphics with Bluetooth

    15.6 FullHD (1920x1080) B+RGLED display with TrueLife™

    Tray Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive

Kindly reply whether there are heating problems with such configuration and whether my batter life will be decreased. Also reply what battery life will i be getting with this configuration.

Also please tell me if the following configuration is a better one in terms of heating and battery life

    Intel® Core™ i5-460M Processor (2.53GHz, 2Core/4Threads, turbo up to 2.8GHz, 3M cache)

    15.6 HD (1366x768) WLED display with TrueLife™

    4GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2G) (operates at 1066MHZ for Core i5 processors)

    500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

    1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M graphics with Bluetooth

    6 Cell Primary Battery

    Tray Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive

    Waiting for ur replies....

First of all, you better do not put your e-mail address down there.

Then secondly, the most important question: What are you going to do with your laptop? If it's heavy 3D rendering, video converting, editing, stuff like that; take the i7.

If it's going to be used for web browsing, music, watching movies, playing games; the i5 would suffice most.

Last of all, please don't just make a topic before reading other topics. This question has been asked so many times already.
