I called up Dell Canada to inquire on how much for extended warranty for my XPS M1330 (had 1 year RTD, then somehow got an extra year RTD without paying extra).
I was quoted:
$288 for extra year
$576 for 2 extra years
I thought this was excessive and told him.
He informed me it was based on the purchase price of my configuration. (note my signature shows updated CPU and hard drive--it originally came with a 1.66 Ghz T5450 and 250GB HDD).
I said no thanks, because it's too much, and that kind of money can be put towards a new laptop with a new warranty.
He responded "but you have a high-end XPS configuration!"
I said "I know".
Then he tried to sell me on it by quoting me how much certain repairs would cost:
$700 to replace video card
$500 to replace motherboard
I said, replacing the video card and motherboard is the same thing.
He says no, because the video isn't integrated.
I reply, but it's soldered to the motherboard so any replacement would require replacing the motherboard.
I told him I had that repair done under warranty and replacing video chip requires motherboard replacement.
He persists, "No you are mistaken...."
I cut him off and tell him "Thank you for the info, but I don't wish to pay that much for those services"
and hung up on him.
I don't mind getting an extended warranty but only if it's reasonable.
I can get a new motherboard with the problem-free Intel integrated video for about the same cost as an extra year, and won't have to worry about this notebook's main issue.
Does anybody have any similar stories, or any ideas on how to get a more reasonable quote?
I think even the two extra years is even more inflated, as all he did was double the one year extension, which doesn't sound right.

Dell does that alot..but you said *no*, and I won't be surprised if they don't contact you again with a lower quotation on the extended warranty. They have done this with my brother a few times!
Also, you can go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/top...ty_store_sign_in?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~ck=mn
Enter your *Service Tag* and it will give you some pricing options on the warranties availi' for your lappy!

Thanks for the link Cin
.
I tried it but kept getting an error.
Maybe it does that because my machine is not a US one but Canadian? -
I think that is possibly the issue CA vs. US.
Did you try these numbers: (link from Dell Canada).

Yes, that was the number I used to talk to my 'super helpful' rep !

...Well, you could try another rep, tomorrow and see what *price points* you get. It would be interesting to know if you are quoted differently!

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
I had the same problem when i called to upgrade to 2 year NBD onsite. First time i called i was quoted 350 for 1 year and 700 for year and i asked the person if they were on crack and hung up. Next time i called i was quoted 300 for 1 year and 420 for 2 year so i took the 2 year. It all depends on who you get a hold off. Try try again and you will get what you are looking for
