Hello,
I recently bought a 1tb external HD, formatted it to NTFS, and have noticed that any time I copy files to or from the external HD I only get speeds of about 45mbps using an express card and an eSata cable. I have also noticed that my whole system slows down dramatically. As soon as the files are copied, my m1530 is back to full speed.
Any ideas why this is happening?
I've noticed tonight that when installing games my system seems to lock up quite a bit as well. Any idea why? I'm running on 3 gigs of RAM and I just installed Windows 7.
Thanks

I dont know anything about the specs of the express card slot but perhaps that is your bottleneck. What is the card you are using? Hopefully you will get this all figured out. In the meantime maybe switch to USB.

sounds like a bad driver or e-sata controller.
in worst case you got some that might go esata->usb->expressslot or whatever, and they love to hug cpu power -
Hey. It's aDcOoL on a different account (I'm at school and I don't have my 'aDcOoL' account's password)
Anyway, I looked up some reviews on the expresscard I'm using: Dynex Express Card Adapter (DX-ESATL)
Everything I've read about it was positive, but then I read the first review on this page: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8682393&type=product&id=1199494484010
The guy says "The transfer of data from the external to the intrernal drives was great. On a straight copy, Vista reported an average of 44.5 MBps."
44mpbs is right around the speeds I'm getting. These speeds are "great"?
The reason I bought this card was because of it's low price: $25.99. I saw the same product on other sites for over $50, so I thought it was a good deal. Maybe I should return it and buy a different one?
Thanks
